Kia Carens Clavis EV Overview

Updated on March 27, 2026

Kia introduced the Carens Clavis EV as the electric version of the Carens Clavis. It uses an electric platform that shares components with models such as the Creta Electric and focuses on family-oriented practicality with a long wheelbase for increased cabin space and multiple seating layouts, including a 6-seater option with captain seats.

To propel this platform, two battery options are available, a 42 kWh pack and a larger 51.4 kWh pack. Both are paired with electric motors, designed to deliver immediate torque and smooth power delivery.

Inside, the cabin features large digital displays, practical storage areas, and trim-dependent material options, while the exterior includes alloy wheels, LED lighting, and aerodynamic detailing.

Furthermore, key strengths include fast-charging capability via CCS2, a robust safety package with multiple airbags and electronic aids, and features like a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, and premium audio in higher trims.

Battery and Motor

The Carens Clavis EV is equipped with a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) paired with a single-speed automatic transmission that drives the front wheels.

It is offered with two battery options, a 42 kWh pack producing 134 hp and a larger 51.4 kWh extended-range pack delivering 171 hp, both variants generating a peak torque of 255 Nm.

To manage this output, the liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery pack supports regenerative braking and multiple drive modes to optimise performance and efficiency across various driving conditions.

Range and Charging

The Carens Clavis EV delivers an ARAI-certified driving range of 404 km with the 42 kWh battery pack and 490 km with the 51.4 kWh extended-range battery pack.

In terms of charging, Kia claims that the 10-100% charging time using an 11 kW AC charger is around 4 hours for the standard battery and approximately 4 hours 45 minutes for the larger pack. With a 100 kW DC fast charger, the 10-80% charge is achieved in about 39 minutes for both variants.

These figures are measured under the MIDC test cycle and may vary depending on real-world driving conditions, load, speed, and usage of climate control.

interior

The Carens Clavis EV’s interior is built around a suspended floating console dashboard layout. Depending on the trim, it uses premium fabric, semi-leatherette, or leatherette materials, along with dark metal or pad-print garnishes and ambient lighting. The steering wheel is a double D-cut dual-tone leatherette-wrapped unit with tilt and telescopic adjustment, integrating controls for audio, cruise, and connected features.

Infotainment includes a touchscreen (up to 12.3-inch) with connected navigation, smartphone mirroring, and Kia Connect services, paired with a digital instrument cluster for driver information.

As for seating, higher trims add ventilated front seats, power adjustment, and quick-release second-row mechanisms for easier third-row access, where rear passengers get dedicated AC vents and fold-flat or sliding seat functions, with adequate knee and headroom across rows.

Lastly, practicality is handled by multiple cup holders, device holders, sliding console covers, and a 216L boot space.

exterior

The Carens Clavis EV adopts a design that closely follows the overall shape and proportions of the standard Carens, with styling elements adapted for its electric powertrain.

From the front, the EV showcases Kia's signature tiger-face grille, sleek LED headlamps with integrated daytime running lamps, and bold bumper styling.

The side profile shows silhouette with a tall roofline, blacked-out pillars, satin chrome beltline, and integrated roof rails for added utility. Wheel options include 16-inch or 17-inch alloys with aero-optimized designs, alongside all-wheel disc brakes.

At the rear, it gets connected LED tail lamps, a clean bumper layout, and elements such as rear parking sensors.

Overall proportions reflect a focus on cabin space, while aerodynamic detailing is incorporated to support efficiency and the ground clearance is suited for typical Indian road conditions.

safety

The Carens Clavis EV comes with the ROBUST 18 Hi-Safety Package as standard across every variant. This includes six airbags, and essential structural hardware like ABS, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), rear parking sensors, all-wheel disc brakes, ISOFIX child seat anchors, among others.

Additional features in select trims comprise Level 2 ADAS features such as Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance, and Lane Keeping Assist.

Note that no official Global NCAP or Bharat NCAP crash test ratings are available for this EV model as of yet.

competition

The Carens Clavis EV competes with the Mahindra XEV 9S, Hyundai Creta Electric, and the MG Windsor EV.

The XEV 9S offers similar seating capacity and battery options and provides a larger battery in top variants, while the Carens Clavis EV counters with a more traditional MPV layout for easier third-row access and family practicality.

The Creta Electric shares near-identical powertrains and batteries but offers an SUV body style with potentially higher ground clearance and different ride dynamics, whereas the Carens Clavis EV leads in interior space and seating flexibility for larger families.

Meanwhile the Windsor EV provides strong value with a spacious cabin but typically features a two-row layout compared to the Clavis EV's dedicated three-row setup.
