Smart Summary for Car Selection
Why Choose MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV?Why choose
- Plug-in hybrid powertrain with 115km electric-only range and 1,100km combined range is a running-cost proposition that the Alcazar's petrol and diesel engines cannot match for buyers who charge consistently
- Seven seats with third-row AC, compared to the Alcazar's 6-seat or 7-seat options where the third row is more modest
- Claimed PHEV efficiency of approximately 40kmpl for daily-charging buyers is substantially better than the Alcazar's 17.5-20.4kmpl claimed figures across petrol and diesel variants
- BaaS pricing provides a lower upfront cost entry point than the Alcazar's outright price for comparable specifications
- The novelty of India's first mass-market PHEV means early buyers are getting a powertrain type with no direct rival in this segment
Why not choose
- No crash test rating from Bharat NCAP or Global NCAP; the Alcazar has not yet published results either, but the Creta platform on which it is based has established structural credentials
- PHEV running-cost benefits require consistent home or workplace charging; buyers who cannot charge regularly will find the Alcazar's diesel more efficient in real-world use
- MG's service network is narrower than Hyundai's, and PHEV-specific servicing requires specialist knowledge that Hyundai dealers do not need for the Alcazar's conventional powertrains
- At comparable pricing, the Alcazar's Level 2 ADAS suite on the Signature variant, twin 10.25-inch screens, and ventilated seats represent a feature-rich conventional package that many buyers find more reassuring than an unproven PHEV
Why Choose Hyundai Alcazar?Why choose
- Level 2 ADAS including adaptive cruise, forward collision avoidance, lane-keep assist, and blind-spot view monitor is available on the Signature variant, covering the driver assistance bases the Tomahawk PHEV has not yet confirmed in full detail
- Both 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre diesel are available, the diesel producing 115PS and 250Nm for buyers who want engine efficiency on long-distance journeys without the PHEV complexity
- Available in 6-seat captain-chair and 7-seat bench configurations, with the 6-seat layout offering meaningfully better second-row comfort than either the bench or most SUV-based third-row setups
- Hyundai's service network is among the widest for any non-Maruti brand in India, with strong Alcazar-specific technician knowledge across tier-1 and tier-2 cities
- Panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control and a 10.25-inch touchscreen create a well-appointed family cabin at a price below the Tomahawk PHEV's outright purchase price
Why not choose
- No hybrid or PHEV powertrain; the Alcazar's running costs from petrol or diesel are meaningfully higher than the Tomahawk PHEV for buyers who charge at home daily
- No crash test rating from either Bharat NCAP or Global NCAP yet for the current-generation Alcazar a gap it shares with the Tomahawk PHEV, though the Creta platform gives structural context
- The 7-seater configuration's third row is the Alcazar's most consistently criticised aspect; adults find the legroom and headroom constraining even on short journeys
- Boot space with all rows in use drops to a very modest level, which limits luggage capacity for a genuinely loaded family trip
Our Recommendation For Most BuyersMG Hector Tomahawk PHEV
The Tomahawk PHEV earns its place for buyers who can charge daily and want to substantially reduce their monthly fuel spend compared to any petrol or diesel three-row SUV. At 40kmpl in PHEV mode the running cost gap over the Alcazar's best figures is wide, and the 115km electric range covers a typical weekday driving pattern without touching the petrol engine.
The Alcazar's Level 2 ADAS suite and more established service network are real advantages the Tomahawk PHEV has not yet matched. For buyers who cannot charge consistently, the Alcazar's diesel is the more honest fuel efficiency answer. The PHEV powertrain's complexity is also a consideration: early buyers take on a degree of after-sales uncertainty that the Alcazar buyer simply does not face.
Hyundai Alcazar
The Alcazar's case rests on a well-rounded package at a price the Tomahawk PHEV's outright purchase cannot approach: Level 2 ADAS, a diesel engine that is genuinely efficient for highway use, a well-developed service network, and the captain-seat 6-seater layout that is arguably the most comfortable family configuration in this segment.
Buyers who drive more than 1,500km per month and cannot charge at home will find the diesel's running costs competitive with the Tomahawk PHEV's petrol-only operation, and they will have the assurance of Hyundai's established technician knowledge behind them. For family buyers who want a feature-complete, well-supported, comfortable three-row SUV without powertrain novelty risk, the Alcazar is a cohesive and capable answer.
