The Mahindra Thar Petrol, recently updated in late 2025, remains the ultimate lifestyle off-roader with its compact turbo setup and unbeatable trail credentials. The 2.0-litre mStallion turbo-petrol engine (1997 cc) generates 150 bhp at 5000 rpm and 320 Nm of torque from 1500 to 3000 rpm, ideal for off-road situations.
It comes with a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter automatic. Basic safety includes dual airbags and ABS, while higher trims add ESC and rear parking sensors.
The Thar Roxx Petrol is the better Thar of the two, with a superior platform and comfortable rear seats for enhanced comfort and practicality. Its 2.0-litre turbo-petrol mStallion (1997 cc) delivers 160-174 bhp at 5000 rpm and 380 Nm between 1750 and 3000 rpm, with tuning variations by trim.
Transmission is a six-speed manual (160 BHP) or six-speed automatic (174 BHP). The Petrol Thar Roxx however, is only available with a rear-wheel drive configuration.
On the safety front, it features six airbags, ESC, hill descent control, and a five-star Global NCAP rating for assured family safety.
Tata Harrier and Safari (168 BHP)

Tata Motors recently launched the Petrol variants of the Harrier and Safari. Both SUVs use the Hyperion 1.5-litre T-GDi turbo-petrol engine producing 168 BHP and 280 Nm of torque.
A 6-speed manual will be standard, joined by a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
Safety suite will be carried over from the diesel variants, with standard six airbags, ESC, advanced aids like autonomous emergency braking, and the 5-star Global NCAP rating as well. The petrol variants of both the SUVs have already scored 5 stars in the Bharat NCAP crash test.
Renault Duster 2026

Renault has revived the Duster in India, aiming to take on the compact SUV segment that it created.
The Duster's 1.3-litre turbo petrol churning out 160 BHP and 280 Nm, is paired to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed DCT.
This powertrain option is available on all except the base ‘Authentic’ variant.
Standard safety covers 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, Hill start assist, TPMS, rear parking sensors, and ISOFIX seat mounts. Higher variants add Level 2 ADAS features and a 360-degree surround view.
Renault is likely to reveal the prices for the Duster ahead of its March 2026 (expected) launch. Its 1.3-litre turbo petrol variants could start from around ₹13 lakh.
