Thanks to Tata Motors, more and more carmakers are getting 5-star safety ratings every day. Here is a list of all the cars you can get with a 5 Star BNCAP rating under 10 lakhs.
We have also added crash test dummy images for each car so you can get a better idea of how it performed.
Since BNCAP does not provide the information on the stability of the body shell, unlike Global NCAP, these ratings should be taken with a grain of salt.
Skoda and Tata cars also boast 5-star ratings from GNCAP (Global NCAP), which has more stringent protocols.
What is Bharat NCAP?
Bharat NCAP, short for the Bharat New Car Assessment Program, is India's official government-backed initiative launched in August 2023 to independently evaluate the crash safety performance of new passenger vehicles, aiming to reduce road fatalities by promoting higher safety standards. Modelled after global programs like Global NCAP and Euro NCAP, it assigns star ratings from one to five, with five being the highest.
The ratings are assigned based on rigorous, standardised crash tests and assessments across three main categories - Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), Child Occupant Protection (COP), and Safety Assist Technologies. Vehicles are subjected to frontal offset (64 km/h), side (50 km/h), and pole (29 km/h) impact tests using advanced dummies, with points awarded for occupant injury metrics, structural integrity, and features like airbags, ABS, and electronic stability control.
A five-star rating requires at least 27/32 points in AOP and 41/49 in COP, pushing manufacturers to standardise essential safety features across all variants of their cars.
