Smart Summary for Car Selection
Why Choose Mahindra XUV 3XO?Why choose
- Its turbo-petrol is among the most powerful engines in this class, well ahead of the Venue's
- One of the roomiest cabins in the segment, and it genuinely seats five where the Venue manages four
- A panoramic sunroof, Level 2 driver assistance, surround-view camera and twin screens are available without buying the range-topper
- Carries a 5-star Global NCAP rating
- A torque-converter automatic is offered with the turbo, avoiding dual-clutch worries
Why not choose
- Fuel economy trails the Venue, especially if you use the performance
- no CNG, so high-mileage buyers have fewer options
- Mahindra's service network is smaller and resale is weaker than Hyundai's
- Heavy screen and electronics content raises the chance of software niggles
- Interior finish is behind the Hyundai's in places
Why Choose Hyundai Venue?Why choose
- Sturdy build with fit and finish that reviewers single out
- Offers a diesel, including with an automatic, which the 3XO cannot match
- Better fuel economy across comparable versions
- Suspension tuned to balance comfort and handling well
- Hyundai's after-sales handling is more predictable and resale is stronger
- Bose audio, ventilated seats and rear sunshades on higher versions
Why not choose
- Still effectively a four-seater despite growing in size
- Driver assistance and the larger screens are locked to the dearest version
- Its turbo returns poor economy in heavy traffic
- Dual-clutch automatics have a patchy record in Indian conditions
- Considerably less powerful than the 3XO's turbo
Our Recommendation For Most BuyersMahindra XUV 3XO
The 3XO is the enthusiast's pick here, and its turbo-petrol is the whole reason to consider it over the more polished Hyundai. Anyone who enjoys driving should go straight to that engine, ideally with the automatic if traffic is part of daily life, and it is worth noting Mahindra pairs it with a torque-converter gearbox rather than a dual-clutch.
The unusual strength is the middle of the range, since the sunroof, driver assistance and surround-view camera do not require buying the dearest version, which is exactly where the Venue frustrates buyers. Skip the entry car unless budget forces it.
Hyundai Venue
The Venue is the more sensible ownership proposition even if it is the less exciting car. Anyone covering serious distance each month should take it, particularly now that an automatic is available with that engine, which Mahindra cannot answer at all.
The small turbo suits city use but drinks heavily in traffic. The catch to plan around is Hyundai's habit of reserving driver assistance and the bigger screens for the dearest version, so budget accordingly or accept doing without equipment the 3XO offers further down.
