Volkswagen Taigun Facelift Spotted Testing

Volkswagen truly impressed the Indian automotive market with the Taigun’s launch, with its design especially getting people talking. Nearly four years have passed since its debut, and unsurprisingly, the SUV was recently spotted testing with its front and rear portions camouflaged. This comes after the Skoda Kushaq was also recently spied testing, indicating a launch of both the facelifted SUVs around the same time.

This is expected to be a mid-life facelift for the Taigun, designed to keep it competitive and updated against its rivals, including the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Honda Elevate. The facelift is largely expected to be restricted to cosmetic and feature enhancements while retaining the Taigun’s core mechanical setup. With a March 2026 launch expected, the test mules spotted provide early insights into the possible changes Volkswagen is preparing.

Design Changes

The heavy camouflage on the front and rear of the SUV suggests a revised front fascia with an all-new grille, updated LED headlamps, and tweaks to the bumper, lending it a bolder, more aggressive road presence. On the rear, expect reprofiled tail lamps, continuing the connected LED elements from the existing model. Design changes to the side profile will be limited to new, redesigned alloy wheels. While spy shots of the interior are unavailable, the facelift is expected to introduce a refreshed dashboard layout, with new upholstery and color options.

Feature Updates 

The facelifted Taigun could get tech upgrades, including advanced connected car features, a 360-degree camera, and dual-zone climate control. On the safety front, Level 2 ADAS with adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and auto high beam are expected, aligning the Taigun with segment leaders and buyers’ expectations.

Powertrain Changes

On launch, the Taigun facelift is likely to retain its existing powertrains. It currently comes with a 1.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine producing 115 bhp and 178 Nm of torque, and a 1.5-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine producing 150 bhp and 250 Nm. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard across both engines. The 1.0-litre engine is paired to a 6-speed torque converter automatic, while the 1.5-litre gets a 7-speed DSG. 

However, Volkswagen is expected to introduce an Aisin-sourced 8-speed Automatic Transmission, replacing the existing 6-speed torque converter. This gearbox will be tuned to enhance fuel efficiency and meet stricter emission norms. 

Further details about the Taigun facelift will emerge closer to its anticipated launch in March 2026, which could see it competing with new rivals such as the Renault Duster and a Nissan mid-sized SUV.
