Upcoming Flex Fuel Cars in India

Flex fuel vehicles (FFVs) can run on petrol blended with high amounts of ethanol, such as E20 to E85 or even E100.

The Indian government is rapidly pushing high ethanol blended fuels. With E85 fuel now available at select pumps and priced lower than regular petrol, several automakers are planning to introduce flex fuel models, especially after Maruti Suzuki launched the WagonR Bioflex.

Many of these carmakers had showcased their flex fuel vehicles at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo.

Here are some of the key upcoming flex fuel cars.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx Flex Fuel

The Maruti Fronx is the next car set to get a Flex Fuel option after the Wagon R. Suzuki showcased the Fronx flex fuel concept at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show.

It retains its design, but adds flex fuel badges and decals. It will be powered by the same 1.2-litre petrol engine from the Wagon R Bioflex, compatible with fuel blends up to E100.

In terms of features, the Fronx FFV is expected to be unchanged from the standard model.

Tata Punch Flex Fuel

Tata Motors displayed the Punch flex fuel concept at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Show.

The micro-SUV will likely retain its 1.2-litre engine making 88 bhp and 115 Nm, with updates to the ECU, fuel system, and exhaust for E85 compatibility.

Having recently received a facelift, it will carry over the rugged looks and strong build quality.

Hyundai Creta Flex Fuel

Hyundai showcased the Creta Flex Fuel at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. It features a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine producing 118 bhp and 172 Nm torque modified for E100 ethanol compatibility.

If launched with this engine, it would make the Creta Flex Fuel more engaging to drive than the standard petrol model with the naturally aspirated unit.

It retains the standard Creta's premium design, spacious interiors, advanced features, and strong road presence.

Mahindra XUV 3XO Flex Fuel

The Mahindra XUV 3XO Flex Fuel was also put on display at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. This compact SUV uses its popular 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine (MPFI, not T-GDI) making 110 bhp and 200 Nm torque, with modifications for E20 to E85 compatibility.

It keeps the bold design, feature-rich spacious cabin, and strong performance that stands out in the segment.

Toyota Innova Hycross Flex Fuel

Toyota too showcased the Innova Hycross Flex Fuel prototype at 2024's Bharat Mobility Global Expo.

The premium MPV combines its strong hybrid system with flex fuel capability for high ethanol blends, while keeping its comfortable seating, modern features, and efficient hybrid powertrain.
