I remember distinctly when the Punch was first launched in 2021, in the midst of Corona lockdowns. Everyone thought that Tata had pulled a prank of the century, a 5.49 lakh car with 5-star safety and a ground clearance that will rival SUVs thrice its price!
Fast forward 5 years, and that prank has become the bestseller in its segment, with over 700,000 units sold. This sub compact dominance Tata has managed to build will soon be challenged as plenty of carmakers have decided to answer Tata's Punch with their own uppercut
Here is every Tata Punch rival that will debut soon
Maruti Suzuki Project Y43
The Y43 was considered a rumor mostly, with a few speculative bits coming in here and there until Maruti discontinued the Ignis.
The Y43 is widely regarded as the Ignis’ successor and a pretty competent Tata Punch rival. Maruti has got no solid car in the ₹6 lakh segment currently. The Brezza and its due soon facelift is on a whole another level and the Fronx is ₹7 lakh ex-showroom.
The Y43 will most likely be priced around ₹6 lakh to take on what is about to turn into a real, bloody compact SUV battle. Maruti will also most probably give it some sort of 3-cylinder Z-series engine, likely borrowed from the Swift.
A CNG variant is also expected to debut along the same timeline, considering how Maruti sells most CNG cars today.
Hyundai Inster EV (HE1i)

This thing will rival the Punch EV to be precise. It is already on sale in the UK for about ₹30 lakhs. But dimensionally speaking, this is a prime candidate to rival the Punch EV in India, as it is just 3.8 metres in length.
To rival the Punch EV here, which starts at just ₹10 lakh, Hyundai will likely drop the battery size and fancy features like V2L, etc. Now, if Koreans do bring it, it could be an entirely different car under a different name, but made on the small car Hyundai-Kia K1 platform, which underpins the i10, etc.
Recently a small Hyundai EV codenamed HE1i was spied In India, this could be it.
Renault Bridger Concept

Renault launched this baby Duster-looking Bridger concept back in March and has pretty much confirmed this upcoming Punch rival will be made in India and exported worldwide. The production version will debut sometime in 2027 and will have the same boxy, rugged style and shape as the concept shown above.
Engine-wise, expect a 1.0-litre engine borrowed from the Triber to be fitted here in some tune.
This too will be priced extremely aggressively, with a price tag around ₹6 lakh, similar to the current Punch.
