Tata Motors launched the new Sierra in November 2025.
Soon after the SUV's launch, the carmaker had conducted a controlled fuel efficiency test of its 1.5-litre turbo petrol variant at NATRAX, where it achieved 29.9 km/l. Though impressive on paper, these figures were far from realistic.
In March, an RTI (Right to Information) query by X account Vahan Warta revealed an ARAI mileage of 13.5 km/l for the turbo petrol Sierra - far lower than Tata's initial claim. While the diesel Sierra turned out to be significantly better, returning 18.8 km/l, mileage figures of the naturally aspirated petrol remained unknown.

However, complete fuel efficiency figures for all powertrains of the Sierra have now been revealed.
| Engine | Transmission | ARAI Mileage (kmpl) |
|---|---|---|
| 1.5-litre NA Petrol | 6-speed Manual | 17.40 |
| 7-speed DCT Automatic | 16.90 | |
| 1.5-litre Turbo Petrol | 6-speed Torque Converter Automatic | 15.30 |
| 1.5-litre Diesel | 6-speed Manual | 21.26 |
| 6-speed Torque Converter Automatic | 19.22 |
Tata Sierra Powertrains
The new Tata Sierra comes with three 1.5-litre engine options with multiple transmission choices.
The naturally aspirated petrol engine (105 bhp, 145 Nm) is paired to a 6-speed manual and 7-speed DCT, while the turbo petrol (158 bhp, 255 Nm) is exclusively available with a 6-speed automatic. The diesel (116 bhp, 260-280 Nm) is mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic.

Tata Sierra Mileage Figures
The diesel variants clearly lead the efficiency chart, with the manual achieving the highest figure of 21.26 km/l, and the automatic not far behind at 19.22 km/l.
The naturally aspirated petrol engine offers a good balance for city use, with 17.4 km/l for the manual and 16.9 km/l for the DCT.
The Hyperion turbo-petrol, though the most powerful in the range, is a guzzler, returning 15.3 km/l.
These official numbers are higher than the earlier RTI-reported figures, giving a clearer and more positive picture of the Sierra’s fuel efficiency. However, real-world mileage will still obviously vary, depending on driving habits, traffic conditions, maintenance, and other factors.
The Tata Sierra is priced ranging from ₹11.49 lakh for the base Smart Plus petrol variant to ₹21.29 lakh for the top-end Accomplished Plus diesel automatic.
