Skoda Kushaq Facelift Spotted Testing

Recently spotted testing on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, the Kushaq’s test mule was heavily camouflaged but revealed key updates that signal Skoda’s intent to keep its compact SUV competitive in a crowded segment. This sighting comes hot on the heels of similar spy shots of the Volkswagen Taigun facelift, hinting at a coordinated refresh for the VW Group’s MQB A0 IN platform-based SUVs. 

With an expected launch in early 2026, here’s a detailed look at what the facelifted Kushaq has in store, from design tweaks to feature upgrades and its standing against rivals.

Exterior Design: Subtle Yet Modern Updates

Despite the heavy camouflage, the Kushaq facelift’s test mule offered glimpses of its evolved design. At the front, the split headlamp setup with LED daytime running lights (DRLs) appears to be retained, but the halogen turn indicators have been upgraded to dynamic LED units, aligning with modern trends. 

The front grille seems to feature slimmer vertical slats, possibly with a connected DRL strip inspired by the larger Skoda Kodiaq. While the side profile remains unchanged, retaining the Kushaq’s boxy silhouette and strong shoulder lines, the test mule sported sporty 17-inch black alloy wheels, chrome-stripped door handles, and silver-finish roof rails. 

At the rear, the taillights could see a minor redesign, incorporating dynamic LED turn indicators, while the bumper may undergo a significant overhaul for a fresher look. 

Likely Feature Upgrades

Although the test mule’s interior was not visible, Skoda may enhance the cabin to match segment leaders like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. The current Kushaq already boasts a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an 8-inch digital driver’s display, and an 8-speaker sound system. 

Proven Powertrains to Continue

The facelifted Kushaq is expected to retain its existing powertrain lineup, which has earned praise for performance and refinement. The 1.0-liter TSI turbo-petrol engine (114 bhp, 178 Nm) will continue with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed torque converter automatic, while the 1.5-liter TSI turbo-petrol (148 bhp, 250 Nm) will stick with a 7-speed DCT. However, Skoda is reportedly planning to replace the 6-speed torque converter with an 8-speed unit from Aisin for the 1.0-liter engine, potentially post-launch, to improve fuel efficiency and meet stricter CAFE III emission norms. 

This change promises smoother shifts and better reliability compared to the current setup. 

Launch Timeline and Pricing

The Skoda Kushaq facelift is slated to hit Indian roads in early 2026, following the launch of the Skoda Octavia RS in 2025. Priced between ₹10.99 lakh and ₹19.09 lakh (ex-showroom) currently, the facelifted model is expected to command a slight premium, with estimates ranging from ₹11.50 lakh to ₹20.00 lakh depending on variants and features. The pricing reflects added tech and design enhancements to keep pace with the rapidly evolving midsize SUV segment.

The Kushaq’s strengths lie in its solid build, five-star Global NCAP safety rating, and fun-to-drive characteristics. With updated styling, likely ADAS and panoramic sunroof additions, and refined powertrains, Skoda aims to keep the Kushaq relevant against rivals like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and the upcoming Volkswagen Taigun facelift.
