Kia is working on the second-generation of the Sonet, and fresh spy shots of the test mule have surfaced.
Though the test mule of the sub-compact SUV was spotted with heavy camouflage, it did reveal some key design changes ahead of its expected 2027 launch.
The new Sonet's front seems to feature a split-style headlamp setup with distinctive boomerang-shaped LED DRLs, similar to the Sorento. The grille appears smaller while retaining the honeycomb pattern.
The test mule was riding on the older Seltos's 17-inch alloy wheels. At the rear, it featured slimmer taillights, following the new Seltos's design language.
Inside, a curved dual-screen dashboard is noticeable, likely with two 12.3-inch displays for better technology and connectivity.

The next-gen model will shift to the new K1 platform, shared with the Kia Syros and the new Hyundai Venue. This should bring a longer wheelbase, more spacious rear seat, and improved safety, aiming for a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating.
Powertrains are expected to remain the same - a 1.2-litre petrol, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol, and 1.5-litre diesel, paired to manual, iMT, DCT, and torque converter automatic transmissions, depending on the engine option chosen.
The Sonet has been long due for a significant update, and this next-gen model should help it be more competitive against rivals like the Hyundai Venue, Skoda Kylaq, and Mahindra XUV 3XO in the competitive sub-4 metre SUV segment.
