All You Need to Know About the Renault Bridger Concept SUV

Renault India is working on its next model for India - the Bridger. This sub-compact SUV was unveiled in March as a concept, giving us a good idea about its design language.

The Bridger Concept will be an urban vehicle with fresh proportions. Despite measuring under four metres long, Renault promises generous interior space, making it practical for growing families.

This SUV will be designed and developed in India, and is expected to sit above the Kiger in Renault’s line-up.

The design looks rugged and boxy, with clear nods to classic off-roaders. A spare wheel mounted on the tailgate adds a tough, adventure-ready touch, while illuminated Renault lettering on the front gives it a bold, modern face.

The Bridger would be the fourth mass-market SUV featuring a rear-mounted spare tyre, joining the likes of the Mahindra Thar, Maruti Jimny, and Force Gurkha.

Muscular lines and a confident stance suggest it will stand out in the crowded sub-four-metre SUV segment, offering a lifestyle appeal that blends city driving with light off-road capability.

The name Bridger draws from the English word “bridge”, with “ER” added to match Renault’s naming family, which includes the Duster.

Powertrain options are still officially under wraps, but reports suggest it will get a new 1.2-litre MPFi four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine derived from the Duster's 1.3-litre turbo, likely to produce nearly 120 bhp.

The lower displacement under 1200 cc will be achieved by reducing the stroke, meaning it can enjoy the sub-4 metre car tax benefits, and be priced competitively against rivals.

Additionally, being an MPFi unit enables this engine to run on CNG.

Renault's new RGMP platform, which underpins the Bridger, is designed to support multiple powertrains, including Petrol, CNG, Hybrid, and fully electric. A diesel is not expected, however.

Renault is expected to launch the production-ready model in India by the end of 2027.
