Nissan Tekton Spotted Testing Before July 9 Launch

The Nissan Tekton has been seen without camouflage for the first time, exposing important details of its rear profile.

Nissan is set to announce its official return to India's fiercely competitive compact SUV market with the forthcoming Tekton. Prior to its official debut set for July 9, the vehicle has been spotted fully uncovered in public during what seems to be a commercial media shoot.

This most recent leak has the best glimpse so far at the styling of the vehicle that is ready for production.

For starters, the official teaser campaigns suggest that the vehicle abandons the crossover design features of previous models for a more upright posture, heavily influenced by the legendary global flagship, the Nissan Patrol.

The front end is characterised by a wide, rectangular grille with horizontal chrome slats, C-shaped or inverted L-shaped LED DRLs, a thin full-width front light bar, and a prominent high-mounted bonnet line that features localised model branding at its forefront. On the side, it can be seen sporting a dual-tone 18-inch diamond-cut alloy rims set within angular wheel arches with durable protective body cladding.

Although elements such as the greenhouse shape, rear wiper unit, and upper windshield are taken from its Renault counterpart, the Tekton showcases a unique LED taillight design. The rear design features a noticeable roof-integrated spoiler with a built-in brake light, a shark-fin antenna mounted on the roof, roof rails, and an altered rear bumper that includes a silver imitation skid plate.

Under the hood, the Nissan Tekton is likely to get three powertrain options. The standard model features a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing around 100 bhp, paired solely with a six-speed manual gearbox. A more powerful 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine will also be on offer, delivering approximately 162 bhp and 280 Nm of torque, with six-speed manual and a six-speed DCT automatic transmission options. 

Nissan also intends to launch a 1.8-litre strong hybrid powertrain later in the vehicle's life cycle, integrating an internal combustion engine with two electric motors and a lithium-ion battery. It is being reported that this powertrain will be E85-E100 fuel compatible.

Expected to be priced between ₹10 lakh and ₹18 lakh (ex-showroom), the Tekton will launch into one of the most competitive segments in the market, directly competing with major players like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Tata Sierra, Skoda Kushaq, and several others.
