Mercedes-Benz has recalled its S-Class, GLC, AMG SL 55 and EQS Sedan. According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), this is the sixth voluntary recall from Mercedes this year. Nearly 93,000 Mercedes cars have been recalled in the US alone this week.
Affected Models
The affected models include two AMG SLs, three GLCs, nine S-Class (including Maybach), and 16 EQS Sedans which recently got a special edition. If your car is in the affected list, you need not worry, as Mercedes is expected to contact you to schedule a service and the issue should be resolved free of cost.
Why has Mercedes Recalled these Models?
SIAM’s website points towards an issue in the fuse box of the affected cars, which if not reworked correctly could cause system failure. This could result in propulsion loss, and restraint or even impair the instrument cluster functions, increasing the risk of a crash and injuries. SIAM also added that a thermal incident risk cannot be ruled out under specific circumstances.
Past Recalls by Mercedes-Benz
Interestingly, Mercedes has been issuing multiple recalls in the recent past. Reportedly, Mercedes recalled over 13,000 locally produced EVs over a battery thermal runway risk. In December 2024, 386 Maybach and one standard S-Class unit were recalled regarding an ECU fault. For a luxury manufacturer like Mercedes-Benz, such frequent recalls in such a short span of time is surprising and unusual.
