Maruti Suzuki is working on a new micro SUV to rival the popular Tata Punch.
Codenamed Y43, this upcoming micro SUV will sit below the Fronx crossover and above the Ignis, possibly replacing it.
Industry reports suggest the car will measure around 3.8 metres in length, and will ride on Maruti's proven HEARTECT platform.
Design-wise, the Y43 is likely to get an upright stance with a tall roofline, high ground clearance and chunky bumpers for a proper SUV look.

Inside, the car is expected to come well-loaded with features such as a touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity.
Safety equipment should include six airbags, ABS with EBD and rear parking sensors as standard.
Powertrain choices could be one of the biggest strengths. These could include a 1.2-litre three-cylinder mild-hybrid petrol engine, a possible 1.0-litre turbo-petrol unit, and CNG variants for low running costs, and possibly even a fully electric version.
A strong hybrid powertrain could also join the range later.

Maruti could price this micro SUV very aggressively. Expect ex-showroom prices to range between Rs 6-10 lakh, likely undercutting the Tata Punch.
The carmaker plans to produce it in India and may even export it to select international markets.
As for the launch timeline, Maruti has already started building prototypes, with a possible debut as early as 2027 and a launch by 2028.
