Maruti Suzuki retained top status with 216,043 units, yet its market share eroded from 44.79% to 42.07%. This 2.72% drop, despite a marginal volume increase, indicates the wider market is expanding faster than the leader can capture it.
The most critical development is the compression of the second-place tier. Hyundai (12.84%), Tata Motors (12.38%), and Mahindra (12.34%) are now separated by less than 0.5% market share. While Hyundai’s share remained flat, Tata and Mahindra achieved significant year-on-year gains of roughly 0.9% each. This validates a structural shift in consumer demand toward the SUV-centric lineups offered by domestic manufacturers.

Further down the order, Toyota and Kia displayed robust growth, with Kia expanding its footprint by over 1% to capture 5.83% of the market. Conversely, legacy brands Honda and Nissan faced continued contraction, with Honda’s share falling to 1.14% as volumes dropped by over 2,000 units.
The data confirms a high degree of market consolidation, with the top five OEMs controlling 86.45% of the sector. This leaves smaller players like Renault, Nissan, and Skoda-VW fighting for the remaining 13.55%. The metrics suggest that market share gains in 2026 are driven exclusively by manufacturers aggressive in the SUV and premium segments, while those relying on older portfolios or sedans are losing relevance.
