The Maruti Suzuki Fronx has been a hot seller in the Nexa lineup since its launch. Launched in 2023, the crossover is gearing up for a significant mid-life update.
We take a look at the two different versions of the car recently seen during road tests.
Maruti Fronx Hybrid Testing
We had previously spotted a non-camouflaged Fronx testing in Gurugram, revealing some key updates to the car. '
This particular mule was seen with a Hybrid badge on the tailgate and additional hardware on the rear axle. This suggests that Maruti is testing a new, locally developed series hybrid system.
Unlike the complex systems in the Grand Vitara, this series hybrid could use the petrol engine as a generator to charge a battery, which then runs an electric motor to drive the wheels.
It might use the 1.2 L engine with addition 1 kwh battery similar to Grand Vitara but with much more affordable components, like NMC battery etc.
This hybrid setup is expected to be more affordable and could offer a massive fuel efficiency of around 35 km/l.
Along with the hybrid tech, this test car also featured roof-mounted sensors and a bumper-integrated LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) unit, indicating that Maruti is preparing to introduce ADAS features for its upcoming lineup.

Maruti Fronx Facelift - Camouflaged Test Mule

The test mule I spotted was an engine test car, but recently an Instagram user spotted a fully camouflaged Fronx, which means Maruti currently has two test mules in the public, one that is testing the hybrid and the other one pictured above, which has cosmetic uplift.
They both might be the same package, or the hybrid one could arrive later; only time will tell.
With the heavy wrapping hiding its design elements, it is likely that the car will see a fresh look, though the overall silhouette of the crossover seems unchanged.
Expect a redesigned front grille and revised bumpers at both the front and rear. The LED tail lamp clusters are also likely to get a new internal signature. The test mule was seen with the same alloys as the current model, though these will likely change.

On the inside, the facelift could bring premium upgrades such as ventilated seats, a larger touchscreen interface, and a sunroof, though the overall cabin is expected to remain largely unchanged.
Maruti Suzuki is expected to launch this updated model either late this year or in 2027, following the launches of the Brezza and Baleno facelifts. It will continue to take on rivals like the Tata Punch, Nissan Magnite, and Renault Kiger.
