Mahindra XUV 7XO vs XUV700: What's New?

Since its launch in 2021, the Mahindra XUV700 has built on the success of the XUV500, quickly becoming popular for its bold design, strong performance, and rich features. The SUV remains one of the top choices in the mid-size SUV segment, offering great value within its price range. 

Mahindra has now introduced its facelift, renaming it the XUV 7XO, starting at ₹13.66 lakh (ex-showroom). This update brings fresh looks and more technology while keeping the 700’s core strengths intact.

Exterior Design Changes

The XUV 7XO gets a modern makeover to stand out more. 

It gets a new front fascia, featuring a chunkier, full-width black grille with sharp accents, angular LED daytime running lights, and bi-LED projector headlamps. The lower bumper is redesigned with LED fog lamps and a silver finish. 

Changes to the side profile are limited, with new 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and electric smart door handles. 

The rear gets redesigned internal elements for the taillamps, connected by a black panel, along with XUV 7XO badging, though the taillamp shape remains the same. 

These changes give it a sharper and fresher appearance compared to the XUV700.

Interior and Feature Upgrades

Inside, the XUV 7XO steps up with a two-tone theme inspired by the XEV 9e and XEV 9S. 

The dashboard now has a coast-to-coast triple-screen setup with three 12.3-inch HD displays, powered by a faster octa-core processor. It includes advanced connectivity like Alexa with ChatGPT integration, over 90 connected car features, BYOD with Theatre Mode, and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon system with Dolby Atmos and 3D sound. 

The XUV 7XO gets a long list of comfort additions, with six-way powered seats for driver and front passenger with memory function and boss mode, ventilated seats for front and rear (segment-first), soft-touch leatherette materials, multi-zone ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control with quiet mode, front and rear wireless chargers, and retractable rear sunshades. Drivers will find the auto-tilting ORVMs on reverse helpful.

The XUV700 featured dual 10.25-inch screens, standard Alexa, a Sony audio system, powered front seats, ventilated front seats, and wireless charging, but missed out on the expanded screens, rear ventilation, advanced audio, and many extra connectivity options.

Powertrains and Mechanicals

Mahindra has continued with the same set of proven and capable powertrain options for the XUV 7XO. These include a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol with 200 BHP and 380 Nm, and a 2.2-litre diesel 185 BHP/420-450 Nm tunes. 

Both engines are paired to a six-speed manual or automatic transmission, and offer front-wheel or optional all-wheel drive for an additional ₹2,45,000 on select variants. Drive modes like Zip, Zap, Zoom, and Custom remain. 

The suspension has been updated with a new DAVINCI system for a better ride quality, but overall mechanicals stay unchanged.

Safety Enhancements

Safety gets a boost in the XUV 7XO with up to 9 airbags, including curtains for the third row. It adds Level 2 ADAS with 17 functions like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and automatic emergency braking, plus a 540-degree camera, electronic parking brake with auto hold, and over 120 safety features. 

A major and welcome change has been the addition of six airbags and ESP across the range, which the XUV700 did not offer on entry-level variants.

The XUV700 achieved 5 stars in the Global NCAP back in 2021, and the 7XO will likely replicate, if not improve on the same with better scores, both in Global and Bharat NCAP.

Mahindra XUV 7XO vs XUV700 Price

The XUV 7XO starts at ₹13.66 lakh and goes up to ₹26.56 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom), very close to the XUV700's ₹13.99 lakh to ₹26.04 lakh range. However, prices are expected to rise after the first 40,000 units.

The 7XO builds on the winning formula of the 700 with fresh styling, better tech, and more advanced safety, making it even more appealing in its segment. 

Taking over from the XUV700, the Mahindra XUV 7XO will continue to compete against other SUVs, including the Hyundai Creta and Alcazar, MG Hector, and the Tata Harrier and Safari.
