Kia Sorento Hybrid Spotted Testing in India Following Launch Confirmation

The Kia Sorento, a three-row mid-size SUV, has been spotted testing on our roads for the first time.
This comes shortly after Kia's 2026 Investor Day event, where the carmaker officially confirmed its plans to launch the Sorento Hybrid, along with the Carnival Hybrid and Syros EV, in India in the coming years.
Despite the heavy camouflage, it is clear that the test mule is the Sorento, evident by its large dimensions and crossover-SUV-like silhouette. It has a tall stance, a long wheelbase, and a strong road presence.

The spy shots reveal a red Sorento with large dual-tone alloy wheels, an upright rear profile, and functional roof rails.
Overall, the design looks similar to the global 2026 facelift model featuring sharp lines, sleek LED lighting and the signature Tiger Nose grille.

The Sorento is expected to bring strong segment-first features, spacious interiors with 6 and/or 7-seating configurations, and advanced safety systems.
Globally, the SUV offers multiple engine options, including a 2.5-litre turbo GDI engine, a 1.6-litre turbo strong hybrid, and a 2.2-litre diesel in some markets.
In India, we will likely get the strong hybrid option, though reports suggest it may be a slightly downsized 1.5-litre unit. A turbo petrol variant may also be offered later, though a diesel seems unlikely.
Unlike the current Carnival, which comes via the CKD route, Kia is planning to manufacture the Sorento locally at its Anantapur plant in Andhra Pradesh. This is great news, as local production means we could see reasonable and competitive prices, with expectations around Rs 30 to 40 lakh ex-showroom.
Once launched, it will sit above the Seltos and Carens Clavis in Kia’s range. It is expected to compete with models like the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian, and Volkswagen Tayron R-Line. The upcoming JSW Jetour T2 will be a more direct rival, as it will also be powered by a hybrid powertrain.

Although Kia stated it plans to introduce its new models by 2030, it may fast-track certain models like the Sorento amid increasing competition and growing demand for SUVs.
The Sorento Hybrid could arrive towards the end of this year or more likely in 2027.
