Honda has announced it will cancel three electric vehicles from its planned lineup, amid market challenges.
Honda Cancels Three Key EVs
Honda has cancelled the 0 Series SUV, the 0 Series Saloon (sedan), and the Acura RSX, stating that producing and selling these three models in the current business environment, where demand for EVs is declining significantly, would likely result in further losses over the long term.
Factors behind this decision include slowing EV demand, changes in regulations such as easing of fossil fuel rules and revisions to EV subsidies in the US, US tariff policies affecting profitability of gasoline and hybrid models, intense competition from Chinese EV makers with quicker development and software-focused vehicles, and overall challenging market conditions.
Details of the Cancelled Honda Models

The models were part of Honda's in-house developed EVs on the 0 Series platform.
They were nearly ready for production, with plans to build them at the Marysville plant in Ohio for the US market.
The Acura RSX was also targeted for the US.

Honda's Shift to Hybrids and Financial Impact
This cancellation forms part of a broader strategy review.
Honda is now prioritising hybrid vehicles as a bridge to full electrification. The company will overhaul its hybrid lineup, including new platforms, engines, electric hardware, and battery packs.
The first next-generation hybrids are expected in 2027, and some battery production resources are being repurposed for hybrids or energy storage.
The decision will lead to a substantial financial impact. Honda expects operating losses of up to ¥2.5 trillion (around $15.8 billion), with special losses and other costs in the current fiscal year ending March 2026 and beyond.
Implications for the Indian Market

For India, the news has a different angle. While the US-focused 0 Series models have been cancelled, India remains strategically important to Honda's future growth.
The company plans to strengthen its model lineup here, improve cost competitiveness, and introduce next-generation hybrid models.
Earlier plans had suggested the smaller 0 Alpha electric SUV would be produced in India at the Tapukara facility in Rajasthan for local sales and exports, and this appears to remain on track.
