F1 Hungarian GP 2026 Preview, India Timings, and Where to Watch

After a largely uneventful Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps, Formula 1 is headed to the Hungaroring for round 11 of the 2026 season -the Hungarian Grand Prix.

It is a standard race weekend with 2 practice sessions on Friday, a third on Saturday morning, and qualifying on Saturday afternoon. The 70-lap race takes place on Sunday, 26 July, at 6:30 PM IST.

The Hungaroring has a tight and twisty layout, making overtaking notoriously challenging. Fans often call it “Monaco without the walls” for this very reason. Measuring 4.381 km, it features 14 corners, and is one of the highest downforce tracks on the calendar. This season, it gets four straight mode activation zones.

Belgian GP 2026 Results

Kimi Antonelli started from pole to take his sixth victory of the season, extending his championship lead once again. Starting from pole, the Mercedes driver pulled away early in the changeable conditions before a late Safety Car bunched up the field.

Charles Leclerc, after having led for 13 laps, had to settle for second in his Ferrari despite a strong drive, while Max Verstappen after a fairly lonely race took his third podium of the season.

Lewis Hamilton finished fourth in the other Ferrari, feeling disappointed after damage from the lap 1 contact with Russell and a 5-second penalty as a result ruined his chances of fighting for the win.

Oscar Piastri too was left frustrated, with F1's complex engine regulations and a high speed contact with Charles Leclerc resulting in floor and front wing damage.

F1 Drivers' and Teams' Championship Standings after Belgian GP

After seeing his championship lead getting cut down to 25 points at Silverstone, Antonelli has clawed back significantly, now leading Lewis Hamilton by 45 points. 

Russell's unlucky retirement on lap 1 saw him drop down to third place again, leaving him with a mountain to climb again to recover the big gap to his teammate. 

The constructors' championship at the Top 5 has remained unchanged.

What Can We Expect From the Hungarian GP?

Considering the similarities with Monaco, it would be fair to expect Mercedes to be the favourites to win yet again. 

However, holding the record for the most victories on this track (8), and a car that he has lately been feeling much more confident in, don't count Lewis Hamilton out of it. Moreover, the Hungaroring's slow corners could suit the Ferrari SF-26's strengths as well.

Red Bull and McLaren could yet again find themselves fighting behind Mercedes and Ferrari.

Aston Martin will be one to watch out for. The Silverstone-based team are bringing a majorly revised, B-spec car with an all-new chassis in a bid to turn their season around, which so far, has been forgettable to say the least. Has Adrian Newey finally found a fix? We will find out this weekend.

Weather Forecast for the 2026 Hungarian GP

The Hungarian Grand Prix weekend will feature warm, mostly dry conditions at the Hungaroring with a mix of sun and clouds. 

Heat will be the main factor, with highs ranging from 25°C (77°F) on Friday to 30°C (86°F) on Sunday, pushing track temperatures above 45°C.

No rain is expected during any of the sessions.
