Everything You Need to Know about the Kia EV2

The electric vehicle market in India is growing fast, with more affordable options entering the scene, and Kia is set to join this wave with the EV2. 

This compact electric SUV promises to bring modern tech and efficiency to everyday drivers, and was first shown as a concept at Kia's EV Day in early 2025. Kia has announced that the production version of the EV2 will be revealed at the upcoming Brussels Motor Show on 9th January 2026.

For India, the launch is slated for late 2026, with local manufacturing at Kia's Anantapur plant to keep costs down and meet demand at home and abroad. This move aligns with India's push for greener mobility, and the EV2 could become a game-changer in the entry-level EV segment.

Design and Dimensions

The Kia EV2 draws inspiration from Kia's bold EV lineup, featuring a boxy silhouette that largely echoes the Syros. Being just under four metres in length, it will have a compact footprint, making it perfect for city streets and tight parking spots. The EV2 will be a standalone product, and not an electric version of the Syros, as the Syros EV is already confirmed for a 2026 launch in India. 

The concept version featured unique touches, such as suicide doors (rear-hinged doors that open backwards) for easy access and a futuristic front with slim LED lights. However, the former is unlikely to make it to the production models. 

Inside, it offers bench seating up front and foldable second-row seats for versatility. Expect a large, twin-screen setup for the infotainment system and driver information display. The overall design blends urban style with family-friendly utility.

Battery and Range

One of the EV2's strongest suits is its range, tailored for real-world use. It will likely come with two battery options: a 42 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) pack for entry-level buyers, and a 62 kWh nickel-cobalt-manganese (NMC) pack for longer trips. 

This translates to an estimated range of 300 to 480 km on a single charge, based on WLTP testing - enough for daily commutes and weekend getaways without range anxiety. 

In India, where charging infrastructure is expanding, this makes the EV2 a practical choice for urban and semi-urban drivers.

Power figures could range from 130 bhp to 150 bhp, keeping it competitive among segment rivals.

Charging Capabilities

Kia is focusing on quick and convenient charging for the EV2. A full charge from 10 to 80% should take about 30 minutes using a DC fast charger, thanks to its 400-volt architecture. 

At home, an AC wallbox can top it up overnight. Plus, it supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) tech, letting you power gadgets or even charge another device from the car's battery. 

Key Features

The EV2 could pack a punch in tech and safety. Expect Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) with adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking. Connectivity features may include over-the-air updates, a large touchscreen infotainment system, and wireless smartphone integration. 

For India, features like a 360-degree camera and rear parking sensors will help navigate crowded streets. Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication adds smart traffic awareness, enhancing safety in busy cities.

Expected Price and Rivals

Affordability will be key to the EV2's success in India. Expect prices to range from ₹15 lakh ex-showroom, likely topping out around ₹20 lakh for higher variants. 

These prices and battery specifications would position it against models like the Tata Nexon EV, MG Windsor EV, and the Mahindra XUV400. Kia’s premium appeal may attract buyers looking for sophistication.

The Kia EV2 arrives at an ideal time, as India aims for 30% EV adoption by 2030. With local production, expected competitive pricing, and a vast feature list, it could draw first-time EV owners away from petrol SUVs.
