BYD has officially released a teaser for its first plug-in hybrid SUV in India.
This marks an important step for the automaker, which has so far offered only electric vehicles in the country. The new model is expected to launch soon and will use BYD’s advanced DM-i Super Plug-in Hybrid powertrain.
The teaser image does not reveal the design or exact name of the vehicle, but it is likely to be either the Atto 2 or the Sealion 6.

The Atto 2 comes with a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with battery options of 7.8 kWh or 18 kWh. It promises a combined range of up to 998 km on the WLTP cycle.
On the other hand, the Sealion 6 offers even stronger performance with a larger battery and a claimed maximum range of around 1,092 km. It is available in both front-wheel and all-wheel drive versions.
The Sealion 6 was recently spotted testing on our roads, signalling this could be the model to debut first.
BYD's DM-i system combines the benefits of a petrol engine with electric efficiency, making it suitable for Indian customers who want lower running costs and longer drives.
The launch of this plug-in hybrid SUV could strengthen BYD’s position in India’s growing new energy vehicle market.
