2026 Renault Duster: What to Expect?

The Renault Duster holds a special place in India's automotive history. Launched in 2012, it created the now highly popular compact SUV segment. Priced between ₹8 lakh and ₹12 lakh at the time, the Duster became a massive hit. 

This was primarily due to its rugged design, impressive ride quality over all road conditions, off-roading capabilities in the AWD drivetrain, and overall value for money proposition. The Duster received updates over the years but was discontinued in 2022 as it failed to meet stricter emission norms.

However, after years of waiting and uncertainty among its fans, Renault India officially confirmed the return of the iconic SUV. The new-generation Duster will make its India debut on January 26, 2026 - Republic Day.

Based on the current Dacia Duster available in the UK and many other international markets, the 2026 Renault Duster promises to blend adventure with modern tech. While the exact India-specific changes are yet to be revealed, the global model offers strong clues about what buyers can look forward to.

Are Dacia and Renault the Same?

Dacia is a Romanian car company founded in 1966. In 1999, France's Renault Group bought a majority stake in Dacia, making it their affordable, entry-level brand. This partnership revived Dacia with Renault's help in engineering, manufacturing, and worldwide sales. Dacia has been selling a few other badge-engineered cars apart from the Duster, such as the Logan and the Bigster (7-Seater Duster also expected to launch soon).

Design

The Duster's design is set to stay true to its roots, with no major alterations expected for the Indian version. It features an assertive, rugged look, boasting thick black body cladding all around and Y-shaped LED lighting, lending it great road presence. 

Ground clearance is ample at 217 mm, ideal for potholes and rough paths, while the approach angle exceeds 30 degrees for better off-road performance. The overall design retains the first-generation Duster's tough, no-nonsense appeal that made it a fan favourite in India.

Tech and Safety Features

The new Duster steps up in technology and safety, features that will appeal to the Indian market. Major highlights include a 10-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and a 3D Arkamys sound system. Over-the-air map updates and real-time traffic info come standard from mid-trims. Drivers get a 7-inch digital display for key info, plus connected services for maintenance alerts.

Standard safety in India is sure to include six airbags, ESP, Traction Control and Hill Start Assist, considering that Kiger gets these as standard as well. Top-end variants could get Level 2 ADAS, as witnessed in the UK-spec Dacia Duster. These features will make the Duster much safer than before, becoming more competitive in an increasingly safety-conscious market.

Powertrain Options

Renault is expected to offer a 1.2-litre or 1.3-litre mild hybrid turbo petrol engine producing close to 130 BHP and 230 Nm of torque. A 1.6-litre strong hybrid option seen on the UK-spec model could also make its way for those prioritising efficiency, since there will be no diesel option.

For those seeking an adventure companion, a 4x4 or AWD variant could also be on offer, including multiple terrain modes to tackle tough conditions.

2026 Renault Duster Expected Price

To reclaim its spot in the hotly contested compact SUV segment, the 2026 Duster is expected to be priced competitively. Renault aims to at least match the Hyundai Creta, the current leader in the mid-size SUV segment, with a starting price of around ₹11 lakh (ex-showroom). Top-end variants are expected to reach ₹20 lakh. 

Other rivals in the segment will include the 2026 Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Maruti Victoris, and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. 

With its macho design, turbo and hybrid powertrains, and feature-rich cabin, the 2026 Renault Duster looks strong to yet again fight for the crown of the segment it once created.
