- Yes, you read it right! The 2024 Maruti Suzuki Dzire has just earned a 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP, and it is the first Maruti Suzuki product to achieve so.
- In the recent GNCAP test of the latest generation 2024 Maruti Suzuki Dzire, it scored 5 out of 5 in terms of Adult safety and 4 out of five in Child Safety.
- The 2024 Maruti Suzuki Dzire also comes with a suite of safety features including 6-airbags, Electronic Stability Control, and Pedestrian Protection as standard.
Maruti Suzuki holds a dominant position in the Indian car scene, and even recently, it captured 40.1% of the total automotive sales of October 2024. Moreover, Maruti Suzuki is the only company to sell over 1.5 lakh cars last month while the second most-selling brand - Hyundai, only managed to sell 55,568 units in that period.

However, it has one Achilles’ heel: the safety ratings across its model range. Almost all the popular Maruti Suzuki models have poor safety ratings. The earlier Swift Dzire, Swift, and S-Presso models had earned ratings as low as 1-Star.
Until now, the only Maruti Suzuki models with high safety scores were the previous generation of Vitara Brezza, which earned 4 stars in GNCAP testing, and the S-Cross, which achieved a 5-star rating with ASEAN NCAP—though the latter, a more international-level model, hasn’t sold well in India.
However, the launch of the 5-star-rated Dzire now compels these brands to rethink their strategies and possibly up their game.
Honestly, it was safety that was saving brands like Mahindra and Tata, as they often face reliability issues. Volkswagen-group cars used to have the same problem but over the years they have worked on their models according to Indian requirements.
For brands like Mahindra & especially Tata, this can be a huge challenge. The reliability issues have been quite prominent as unsatisfied customers have voiced their anger through various social media platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and YouTube.
But Tata does hold a lot of stake in the compact car segment with the Nexon (One of the bestselling SUVs in India), Punch, Tiago, Tigor, and Altroz.

Now with the Dzire offering Maruti’s reliability, and affordability, alongside 5-star safety, then it simply becomes a way more appealing alternative.
So, it will be very interesting to see, how the #safercarsforindia campaign uplifts itself to #bettercarsforindia as rivals will have to work on their reliability, packaging, and quality which were overseen by the safety aspect.
