Smart Summary for Car Selection
Why Choose Toyota Fortuner Legender? Why choose
- Carries extra equipment the standard car goes without, including wireless charging and ambient lighting

- Shares the standard car's body-on-frame durability and Toyota's ownership record
Why not choose
- Costs substantially more than the standard Fortuner for what amounts largely to equipment and trim changes
- Diesel only, so the petrol option available on the standard car is closed off
- A much narrower choice of versions than the standard Fortuner
- Some cabin materials feel unsatisfactory given the asking price
- Shares the standard car's dated interior design and modest equipment for the money
Why Choose Toyota Fortuner?Why choose

Our Recommendation For Most BuyersToyota Fortuner Legender
The Legender asks a substantial premium over the standard car and gives you equipment and presence rather than capability, so be honest about whether that is what you are paying for. The mild-hybrid diesel is the version worth considering, since the 48-volt system genuinely sharpens low-end response and helps efficiency on a heavy vehicle that needs both.
Choose four-wheel drive only if you will actually use it, since the two-wheel-drive version is cheaper to buy and to run. If your priority is a well-equipped Toyota with the badge and the presence, this delivers, but do not expect it to do anything the standard car cannot.
Toyota Fortuner
The standard Fortuner is the more rational purchase and the more flexible one, since it offers both petrol and diesel and both drivetrains rather than restricting you. The diesel is the engine to have, because the petrol feels short of breath on highways in a vehicle this heavy and most owners come to regret choosing it.
Take four-wheel drive if you genuinely head off tarmac, and stick with rear-wheel drive if you do not, since it costs less and returns better economy. Accept the dated cabin and modest equipment as the price of the durability and resale that keep people buying this vehicle.
