Exterior Design

The XEV 9S is a traditionally designed EV SUV which looks loot like an XUV700. The influence of the XEV 9e is unmistakable, especially at the front where a long-connected LED strip meets L shaped light elements at the ends. The triangular LED headlamp clusters, the clean closed grille panel and the illuminated badge all reinforce its electric character.

The overall stance still hints at the proportions and  smoother surfaces and aero wheels give it a more futuristic appeal. At the rear, the tail lights follow a familiar shape but adopt a sharper light signature, and the redesigned bumper completes the fresh look while keeping the family resemblance intact.

The SUV measures 4737 millimetres long and 1745 millimetres tall. Ground clearance is an impressive 205 millimetres, and boot space with the third row folded is a generous 527 litres. A choice of seven exterior colours is offered, allowing buyers to pick between bright and subtle themes depending on their taste.

Interior

The cabin of the XEV 9S takes heavy inspiration from the XEV 9e. The dashboard uses a full width glass panel that carries two or three displays depending on the variant. The colour scheme is a light dual tone setup with white upholstery that gives the interior an airy and modern feel. The steering wheel is shared with the 9e and features physical buttons designed to resemble touch inputs.

The panoramic sunroof adds openness and is standard in every variant

Second row passengers get sliding and reclining seats, which makes a noticeable difference in comfort for long drives. With the third row empty, even tall adults have space to stretch behind their own driving position.

The last row works best for kids, pets or short hops for adults. The large boot becomes even more useful with the addition of a 150 litre frunk under the bonnet, creating enough room for soft bags and accessories. One of the key strengths of the XEV 9S is its generous cabin height, which helps avoid the cramped feeling common in many three row EVs.

Infotainment

Mahindra has equipped the XEV 9S with several flagship grade features. The 12.3 inch infotainment screen offers wireless phone connectivity and fast response. Another 12.3 inch display sits in front of the driver for readouts, while a third 12.3 inch panel is dedicated to the front passenger for entertainment and apps.

The SUV also includes ventilated front seats, dual zone climate control, a 540 degree camera setup that even shows what is beneath the car, BYOD tablet mounts and a 16 speaker Harman Kardon audio system. Keyless entry, push start, an AR head up display, leatherette upholstery and automatic climate and lighting functions complete the equipment list.

Safety And ADAS

Standard safety equipment includes six airbags, ABS with EBD, stability control, hill assist, ISOFIX mounts, rear sensors and a rear camera. Higher variants gain features such as tyre pressure monitoring, front parking sensors and a full Level 2 ADAS suite. The ADAS system uses front and rear radars along with a camera to support adaptive cruise control, auto emergency braking, forward collision alerts and lane keeping assistance.

Performance And Range

Three battery options are available. The 59 kWh variant delivers 231 PS while the 79 kWh pack produces 286 PS, with both delivering 380 Nm of torque. The pack two variants come with new 70 kWH battery pack with 241 hp and 380 nm. Real world range is expected to fall between 400 and 450 kilometres for the smaller battery and 500 to 550 kilometres for the larger one. Four driving modes and five levels of regenerative braking let drivers tailor the drive.

Acceleration from zero to 100 kmph is claimed at 7 seconds for the 79 kwh battey pack and 7.7 seconds or the 59 kwh battery pack and top speed is rated at 202 kilometres per hour. Mahindra offers a lifetime battery warranty for the first registered owner, which strengthens long term ownership confidence.

The 59 kWh battery requires around 8.7 hours to charge fully using a 7.2 kW AC charger and roughly 6 hours with an 11 kW charger. The 79 kWh pack needs about 11.7 hours using 7.2 kW AC and 8 hours using 11 kW AC.  Superfast Charging Capability: 20 to 80% in just 20 min with 180 kW DC Charger .
