India’s scooter market posted a strong year-on-year performance in April 2026. The top 10 scooters together sold 6,04,228 units, compared to 4,92,735 units in April 2025, registering a healthy 23% YoY growth.
The segment was led by the Honda Activa, which continued to dominate the Indian scooter market by a wide margin. TVS also had a strong presence with Jupiter, iQube and Ntorq, while electric scooters such as TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak and Ather Rizta showed strong growth.

The Honda Activa once again proved its dominance in the scooter segment, selling 2,20,774 units in April 2026 - more than one-third of the total top 10 sales. The model continues to enjoy strong trust among buyers for its comfort, mileage, and resale value.
TVS's Jupiter secured the second position with 1,17,383 units sold, maintaining a steady growth.

The Suzuki Access held the third spot with 70,339 units. Though its growth was modest at 8 percent, it stayed firmly among the top three.
The biggest success story of the month was the Hero Destini 125. Its sales jumped dramatically from just 4,393 units last year to 25,861 units in April 2026 – a massive 489 percent growth. This jump looks extraordinary on paper, but it reflects recovery from a weak April 2025 (production halts and low demand) plus genuine improvement in the Destini’s market traction after the 2025 update.
TVS Ntorq and Honda Dio also performed well with healthy double-digit growth. The only model in the top 10 that saw a decline was the Suzuki Burgman, which fell 16 percent - slightly surprising considering it received an update in early April.
Electric scooters made their presence felt strongly this month.
The TVS iQube, having recently made available with a BaaS ownership option, climbed to fourth place with impressive 35 percent growth. The Bajaj Chetak and Ather Rizta also recorded excellent 79 percent year-on-year growth each.

Popular brands stepping into this segment, improving affordability with ownership schemes like BaaS, decent real world range, and support from Government policies and incentives, are some of the major factors that have led to more people going electric.
This mix of growth in both petrol and electric segments points to a healthy and evolving market. As the year progresses, competition is expected to become even stronger with more electric launches and updates in the scooter space.
