Top 5 Highlights You Need to Know About the BMW F 450 GS

BMW Motorrad has launched the all-new F 450 GS in India to compete in the adventure bike segment. This lightweight machine replaces the G 310 GS, with BMW prioritising performance over tax benefits.

Here are the top five features of the F 450 GS for those of you looking for a premium adventure touring motorcycle.

1. All-New 420cc Parallel-Twin Engine

Powering the F 450 GS is a new 420cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine, producing 48 hp and 43 Nm of torque. It features a 135-degree crankpin offset and a balance shaft aimed to keep vibrations low but with a deep, throaty exhaust note.

BMW claims a fuel efficiency of around 3.8 litres per 100 km (26.3 km/l), which means you should be able to cover over 350 km with its 14-litre tank.

2. Innovative Easy Ride Clutch (ERC)

BMW has introduced a new Easy Ride Clutch system on the F 450 GS.

This segment-first feature lets you ride without touching the clutch lever in most situations. It automatically engages as engine speed rises and prevents stalling.

You still have the clutch lever for full manual control when you want it. Combined with the standard Shift Assistant Pro quickshifter, gear changes should become effortless.

The ERC will be a blessing in disguise for those of you who encounter stop-and-go traffic in your daily commute.

3. 178 Kg Kerb Weight

One of the biggest highlights of the F 450 GS is its 178 kg kerb weight, which is remarkably low for its size and segment. This should make the bike feel nimble and easy to flick around, whether you are weaving through crowded city streets or tackling light trails on a weekend getaway.

Compared to heavier adventure bikes, the F 450 GS should feel far less intimidating for new riders or those coming from smaller machines. The lighter weight also improves handling on twisty roads and can give you more confidence when the surface turns rough.

4. Advanced Connectivity and Riding Modes

The F 450 GS comes loaded with modern electronics.

A 6.5-inch TFT display shows all the important information clearly, and Bluetooth connectivity helps with calls, music, and navigation.

It offers multiple riding modes (Rain, Road, and Enduro, each adjusting throttle response), traction control, and ABS intervention to suit the conditions. The lean-sensitive ABS Pro and Dynamic Traction Control ensure safety on wet and gravelly surfaces.

Higher variants add even more options like Enduro Pro mode for serious off-road use.

5. GS Adventure Suspension and Ergonomics

The F 450 GS stays faithful to the GS family with long-travel suspension that handles both highways and dirt tracks with ease.

It gets 43 mm upside-down forks and a rear monoshock with 180 mm of travel on each end. Higher variants offer full adjustability for compression, rebound, and preload so you can fine-tune the ride for your style.

Its upright riding position, high tapered handlebars, and adjustable levers aim to provide great control and comfort for long hours of riding. Ground clearance is generous at 220 mm, and the 19/17-inch wheel setup with tubeless tyres is ideal for Indian roads and light trails.

Seat height is a manageable 845 mm as standard, with lower (830-835 mm) and higher (860-865 mm) configurations available.
