Smart Summary for Car Selection
Why Choose Tata Punch EV?Why choose
- Considerably larger battery options, with a claimed range beyond 350km and real-world figures around 300km or more
- Its more powerful motor produces around 121bhp, which owners describe as genuinely enjoyable rather than merely adequate
- Carries a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating
- Ventilated front seats, a sunroof, paddle shifters, an electronic parking brake and all-wheel disc brakes that the Tiago EV goes without
- Micro-SUV proportions with higher ground clearance and stronger road presence
- Six airbags, a 10.25-inch touchscreen and a surround-view camera
Why not choose
- Costs meaningfully more than the Tiago EV
- Its suspension is stiffer than the regular Punch, so rough roads are felt more inside
- No spare wheel, only a puncture repair kit
- Tata's after-sales quality is inconsistent by owner accounts
- Brand-new technology, so early software and electronic niggles are a real possibility
Why Choose Tata Tiago EV?Why choose
- Substantially cheaper than the Punch EV, making it one of the most affordable electric cars on sale
- Its compact hatchback footprint is easier to park and thread through tight lanes
- Rear air-con vents and a six-way adjustable driver's seat that the Punch EV does not offer
- Real-world range of roughly 200 to 215km covers most urban commuting comfortably
- Six airbags, a 10.25-inch touchscreen and a surround-view camera are now included
- The same charging options as the Punch EV, including DC fast charging
Why not choose
- Its range makes it strictly a city car, so long highway runs are not realistic
- Power tapers off past 100kmph with a top speed of around 120kmph
- Rear headroom is tight, and it seats four adults rather than five
- No spare wheel, only a repair kit
- Goes without a park mode on the shifter, alloy wheels and adjustable rear headrests on some versions
- The same uncertainty around Tata's service consistency applies
Our Recommendation For Most BuyersTata Punch EV
The Punch EV is the more complete electric car of the two and the one to buy if you ever leave the city, since its larger battery delivers real-world range that makes occasional intercity trips workable rather than stressful. Its stronger motor also makes it enjoyable to drive rather than merely functional, which matters more than the specification suggests when you spend an hour a day in traffic.
Take the larger battery if range matters to you at all, and the smaller one only if your driving is genuinely predictable and home charging is guaranteed. Its stiffer suspension is the trade you accept for the added equipment and presence, and it is worth driving both back to back before committing.
Tata Tiago EV
The Tiago EV works well provided you are honest about what it is, namely a city car with enough range for commuting and errands rather than a vehicle for weekend touring. Within that brief it does the job comfortably, and its lower price makes it one of the easiest ways into electric ownership in India.
Take the larger of its two batteries if you can, since the smaller pack leaves very little margin once air-conditioning and traffic take their toll. Home charging is essential rather than optional here, because public infrastructure will not suit a car with this range. Its compact size is a genuine advantage in dense city driving, and the rear vents are a thoughtful touch.
