Smart Summary for Car Selection
Why Choose Mahindra XEV 9S?Why choose
- Three battery options of 59kWh, 70kWh and 79kWh give buyers genuine price-point entry flexibility; the Harrier EV offers only two sizes
- Seven seats with a 50:50 folding third row, a 150-litre frunk and a 527-litre boot make it the more practical family configuration for households that regularly need the extra row
- Up to 180kW DC fast charging on the higher variants is significantly faster than the Harrier EV's 120kW rate, reducing highway charging stop time by a meaningful margin
- Level 2+ ADAS with five radars, twelve sensors and a forward camera provides a comprehensive driver assistance suite across higher variants
- The INGLO platform's rear-wheel drive layout gives it a 0-100kmph time of approximately 7 seconds in its mid-spec configuration — adequate for daily use
Why not choose
- No quad-wheel drive option; the Harrier EV offers a dual-motor QWD setup producing 390bhp that the XEV 9S cannot match for performance or all-surface traction
- Third-row legroom is adequate for children but constraining for adults on journeys longer than 45 minutes; the seven-seat claim works better in practice as an occasional-use row
- ADAS does not reach the entry Pack One variant; buyers who want driver assistance need to move up, adding cost
- No published Bharat NCAP crash test result; the Harrier EV holds a 32/32 adult protection score from Bharat NCAP — a verified safety credential the XEV 9S cannot currently match
Why Choose Tata Harrier EV?Why choose
- 5-star Bharat NCAP rating with a perfect 32/32 score for adult occupant protection — the strongest independently verified crash safety credential in this comparison
- A dual-motor QWD version producing 390bhp and 504Nm reaches 0-100kmph in approximately 6.3 seconds, giving it the most performance headroom of the two
- 65kWh and 75kWh batteries with MIDC-certified ranges of 538km and 627km respectively, with the 75kWh QWD variant offering all-surface traction no XEV 9S can provide
- Level 2 ADAS including adaptive cruise, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep, and a 360-degree camera is available from mid-range variants
- A 502-litre boot, V2L functionality on higher variants, and a 14.5-inch touchscreen with JBL audio create a well-rounded premium cabin
Why not choose
- Strictly five seats; buyers who need a third row have no solution in the Harrier EV — the XEV 9S is the answer for those who need seven seats
- DC fast charging is capped at 120kW, compared to the XEV 9S's 180kW on higher variants; the charging speed gap is real on long-distance journeys with frequent stops
- The QWD top variants command pricing that buyers scrutinise carefully against both the XEV 9S and against international EVs in a similar price band
- Owner reports mention that the sloping roofline reduces rear headroom for taller passengers and that the raised floor compromises under-thigh support at both front and rear seats
Our Recommendation For Most BuyersMahindra XEV 9S
The XEV 9S makes its clearest argument for families who genuinely need seven seats and want the fastest fast-charging available in this segment. At 180kW, a stop on a highway run is meaningfully shorter than the Harrier EV allows, and three battery sizes mean buyers can enter the range without committing to the top pack.
The frunk adds genuine practicality for families travelling with luggage. The honest gaps are two: no QWD option removes the XEV 9S from consideration for buyers who specifically want all-surface traction, and no Bharat NCAP crash test result sits in contrast to the Harrier EV's perfect adult protection score. For seven-seat families and fast-charging-focused buyers who live within the charging infrastructure, the XEV 9S is the more capable family proposition.
Tata Harrier EV
The Harrier EV's case rests on two things no XEV 9S currently matches: a verified 32/32 Bharat NCAP adult protection score and a QWD dual-motor setup that changes the performance and all-surface traction ceiling entirely. For buyers who want verified crash safety in their EV and do not need a third row, the Harrier EV is the more confidently structured choice. Mid-range RWD variants carry the full ADAS suite and strong range without reaching the QWD's asking price. V2L capability and the 502-litre boot make it a capable family car in five-seat form.
The XEV 9S's charging speed advantage and seven-seat layout are the two reasons to cross-shop; for buyers who need neither, the Harrier EV's safety credential and QWD performance make it the stronger answer.
