The MG ZS EV combines British design heritage with SAIC Motor's electric vehicle engineering. It uses a 50.3 kWh battery pack mounted low in the floor, powering a front-mounted electric motor that produces 174 hp and 280 Nm through a single-speed automatic transmission.

On the outside, it gets full LED Hawkeye headlamps, DRLs, and a closed electric-design grille, all while riding on 17-inch alloy wheels detailed with silver roof rails and subtle chrome trim. A rear spoiler and LED taillights complete the exterior.

Inside, the cabin uses leather upholstery with contrast stitching across the dashboard, door trims, and centre console. Features include a large touchscreen infotainment system, dual-pane panoramic sunroof, PM2.5 cabin filter, and i-SMART connected car technology.

Finally, safety equipment includes six airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchors, 360-degree camera, reverse parking camera, and a Level-2 ADAS suite.

Battery and Motor

The ZS EV uses an electric motor rated at 174 hp maximum power and 280 Nm peak torque. This motor is paired with a 50.3 kWh high-voltage battery and drives the front wheels.

Range and Charging

The ZS EV has an ARAI-certified range of 461 km on a single charge. For basic home or socket charging, a 3.3 kW portable charging cable is included as standard, while a 3.3 kW AC home charging box is optional for the two entry-level trims.

For faster setups, a 7.4 kW AC fast charger is optional for the two entry-level trims and standard on the top two trims, filling the battery from 0–100% in 8.5 to 9 hours.

Alternatively, a 50 kW CCS DC fast charger takes the battery from 0–80% in 60 minutes.

interior

Inside the ZS EV, the dashboard uses leather trim with visible stitching and satin chrome accents on the air vents and door handles. The tilt-adjustable steering wheel is leather-wrapped, while the front seats are leather-upholstered with 6-way power adjustment for the driver.

The rear bench includes 60:40 split folding, a centre armrest with cup holders, and adjustable headrests

Cabin comfort is maintained by an automatic climate control system fitted with a PM 2.5 filter, dedicated rear AC vents, rear power windows, and a dual-pane panoramic sunroof that brings natural light into the space.

On the technology front, a 25.7 cm HD touchscreen manages the infotainment system, supporting wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, and FM radio. It is supported by five USB ports (including two Type-C) and steering-mounted controls.

Ahead of the driver, a full digital cluster uses a 17.78 cm LCD screen to display speed, range, and vehicle information. Other conveniences include smart entry, push-button start, and wireless phone charging.

Finally, storage includes seat-back pockets, a parcel shelf, a luggage net, and multiple 12V outlets.

exterior

The ZS EV measures 4323 mm in length, 1809 mm in width (excluding mirrors), and 1649 mm in height with roof rails, and sits on a 2585 mm wheelbase. It rides on 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 215/55 R17 tyres.

At the front, full LED Hawkeye headlamps and daytime running lights integrate with an electric design grille set into a body-coloured bumper. Meanwhile along the sides, the body gets silver roof rails, door cladding strips, and chrome beltline trim, alongside body-coloured ORVMs with integrated turn indicators and matching door handles with chrome accents.

At the rear, the exterior design concludes with LED tail lamps flanking a rear spoiler and shark-fin antenna, all tied together by a matching body-coloured bumper and cladding.

safety

The ZS EV earned a 5-star Euro NCAP rating, with 90% adult and 85% child occupant protection, though this 2019 result is now officially expired.

The current model supports 6 airbags, alongside ISOFIX child seat anchors, three-point seatbelts for all passengers, including electronic stability control (ESC), ABS with EBD, and brake assist. As for varying terrain and daily driving, it includes hill climb assist, hill descent control, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and an electric parking brake with auto-hold.

Higher variants add Level-2 ADAS features, including adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, front collision warning, and automatic emergency braking. These are complemented by a 360-degree camera and a reverse parking camera.

competition

The MG ZS EV’s closest competitors in its segment are the Nexon EV and Curvv EV, both by Tata.

The Nexon EV offers a lower entry price, more variants, and access to Tata’s widespread service and charging network. The ZS EV counters with a larger 50.3 kWh battery, 461 km claimed ARAI range, 50 kW DC fast charging (0–80% in about 60 minutes), 280 Nm torque, and a more premium cabin with leather trim and a 25.7 cm touchscreen.

The Curvv EV brings coupe-SUV styling, a claimed range of up to 502 km, and a modern, tech-focused interior. The ZS EV responds with stronger torque output, 7.4 kW AC charging, Level-2 ADAS features such as traffic jam assist and lane change assist, and a more upright SUV design that improves rear headroom and driving position.

MG ZS EV range

The MG ZS EV offers a claimed driving range of 461 km on a full charge. The 50.3 kWh battery variant has a claimed range of 461 km.
