Maruti Suzuki Jimny Key Specifications
Maruti Suzuki Jimny Overview

The Maruti Suzuki Jimny combines a classic, retro exterior with genuine off-road hardware. Its upright proportions, round headlamps, and rear-mounted spare wheel are wrapped in a compact footprint measuring just 3985 mm long. Built on a 2590 mm wheelbase, it maintains a light 1195-1200 kg kerb weight and a tight 5.7 m turning radius, complemented by flared wheel arches and durable bumpers.
Underneath, it employs a traditional ladder-frame chassis with rigid axles, powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine delivering 103 hp and 134.2 Nm. This is paired to an AllGrip Pro 4WD system with low-range gearing and a choice of a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission.
Inside, the four-seat cabin prioritises practicality. The horizontal dashboard features robust physical switches and analogue dials, balanced by a modern touchscreen offering Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Rear seating flexibility allows the 211-litre boot to expand to 330 litres when folded flat, while standard safety is well-covered by six airbags, an electronic stability programme, hill-hold and descent controls, a brake limited-slip differential, and a rear-view camera.

Inside the Jimny, the dashboard is laid out horizontally with large, easy-to-reach physical buttons for climate control, off-road modes and audio. Ahead of the driver, the instrument cluster combines analogue gauges with a digital information display for trip data and vehicle status, while the steering wheel is wrapped in leather on higher variants, with audio and cruise controls.
Alongside this, the touchscreen infotainment system offers Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity with Arkamys sound tuning.
For passenger seating, the front seats are supportive with manual adjustments, offering good visibility thanks to the tall greenhouse. In the back, the rear seats slide and recline, and can be folded completely flat.
Adding to the overall practicality, cabin storage includes door pockets, a centre console tray and a glovebox. Also, the rear boot expands from an initial 211 litres with the seats raised to 330 litres when folded.
exterior
exterior
As for the exterior styling of the Jimny, its front gets a flat, upright face with round headlamps, a blacked-out grille with chrome accents, and body-coloured bumpers.
On the side, the profile shows a classic boxy silhouette, a high shoulder line, and trapezoidal wheel arches fitted with 195/80 R15 tyres on steel or alloy wheels.
This is complemented by functional exterior details along the body, such as protective black cladding, roof rails, and side steps on some variants.
Back to the rear, the tailgate carries the spare wheel, vertical tail-lamps, and a high-mounted stop lamp, while the short overhang ensures the departure angle remains generous.
safety
safety
The Jimny comes with 6 airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, electronic stability programme, hill-hold control, hill-descent control and brake limited-slip differential.
Additional equipment includes ISOFIX child-seat anchors, front seatbelt pre-tensioners with load limiters, three-point emergency locking retractors and an engine immobiliser.
The Indian five-door model has not been tested by Bharat NCAP or Global NCAP. However, the three-door Suzuki Jimny was tested by Euro NCAP in 2018 and received a 3-star overall safety rating. Similar 3-star ratings were given by ANCAP, while the Japanese JNCAP awarded it 4 stars.
competition
competition
The Jimny’s closest rivals in its segment are the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha.
Against the Thar, the Jimny offers lighter kerb weight, superior fuel economy (16.9 kmpl vs Thar’s 9-15 kmpl depending on powertrain) and a tighter turning circle for city use, while the Thar counters with more powerful diesel and petrol options, greater cabin space and more modern features.
Versus the Gurkha, the Jimny provides better daily drivability, lower running costs and easier parking thanks to its smaller size and lighter weight, whereas the Gurkha delivers heavier-duty construction, higher torque output and more extreme off-road hardware suited to very tough conditions.
Maruti Suzuki Jimny mileage
The Maruti Suzuki Jimny mileage ranges from 16.39 to 16.94 kmpl. The Manual Petrol variant has an ARAI mileage of 16.94 kmpl. The Automatic Petrol variant has an ARAI mileage of 16.39 kmpl.
