Lexus ES Overview

Updated on March 27, 2026

The Lexus ES is known for its comfortable ride, quiet cabin, and spacious interior. In India, it gained wider appeal after local production of the ES 300h began in 2020. The latest iteration is a major shift for the nameplate, with Lexus introducing the ES 500e as its first battery-electric model for the Indian market.

At its core is a dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain paired with a 74.68 kWh lithium-ion battery, delivering 338 hp and 438 Nm of torque for brisk 0-100 kmph acceleration in 5.5 seconds. It maintains the brand's hallmark smoothness and offers a claimed range of up to 580 km.

Look wise, this executive sedan has a more sculpted silhouette and larger dimensions, measuring 5,145 mm long, with a 2,950 mm wheelbase, which improves road presence and offers generous cabin room for both front and rear passengers.

In addition, the interior focus remains on premium materials, intuitive technology including a 14-inch touchscreen, and rear-seat comfort, alongside advanced driver aids and a comprehensive safety suite.

Engine and Performance

The ES 500e is powered by a battery electric vehicle powertrain with dual permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) in an all-wheel-drive (AWD) configuration.

The front motor produces 227 hp of maximum power and 268.6 Nm of torque, while the rear motor delivers 120 hp and 169.8 Nm. Combined, the system provides a strong 338 hp response with a claimed 0-100 kmph acceleration time of 5.5 seconds.

fuel economy

As a battery electric vehicle, the ES 500e features a 74.68 kWh lithium-ion battery with a claimed range of 580 km. Lexus India claims that charging from 10-80% takes 28 minutes using a 150 kW DC fast charger, under specified conditions with the battery temperature at 25°C at the start.

interior

The ES presents a driver-focused dashboard layout finished with premium semi-aniline leather, multi-layered bamboo accents with illumination, and soft-touch surfaces. It offers a compact three-spoke steering wheel with physical controls and a Tazuna cockpit layout.

Infotainment features a large 14-inch touchscreen supporting wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, a 17-speaker Mark Levinson audio system, alongside a 12.3-inch instrument cluster that displays key vehicle data.

Regarding the seating, the cabin is upholstered in semi-aniline leather and offers heating and ventilation for the driver and front passenger, while the rear seats provide trunk-through access for added practicality.

The cabin also includes an electronic inner rear-view mirror, automatic dual-zone air conditioning with a minus ion generator, rear door sunshades, and dual wireless chargers.

In addition, the ES provides practical storage spaces throughout the cabin along with a power back door for easier luggage access.

exterior

The ES features a sleek exterior design built on a 5145 mm length and a 2950 mm wheelbase, resulting in an elongated profile. The front fascia is defined by Lexus’ evolved spindle-inspired design that incorporates slim twin L-signature LED headlamps with integrated DRLs, indicators, and cornering lamps for better visibility.

Along the side, the vehicle utilizes semi-flush outside door handles to improve aerodynamic efficiency, while the ride height is set at 158 mm ground clearance. This stance is supported by 21-inch aero wheels wrapped in 235/45 R21 tyres.

Meanwhile at the rear, integrated illuminating logo on combination lamps and individual L-signature rear turn signals create a distinctive light signature, supported by a tilt-and-slide sunroof, auto and easy door closure, and power back door for effortless access.

safety

In terms of safety, the ES comes equipped with 8 SRS airbags, ISOFIX and top tether anchors for child seats, and an anti-theft system with siren, and intrusion and tilt sensors.

Beyond these, the sedan also gets Level-2 ADAS, featuring Auto Emergency Brake (AEB), Lane Departure Alert (LDA), Emergency Brake Signal, among others.

Note that the Global NCAP or Bharat NCAP star ratings are not available for this model yet. Prior-generation Lexus ES models earned 5 stars in Euro NCAP (adult 91%, child 87%), but these results do not apply here.

competition

The ES competes with its closest rivals, namely the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, and Audi A6, which are available with hybrid or electric options at comparable positioning.

The E-Class leads with its advanced MBUX infotainment, and a broader choice of powertrains including strong plug-in hybrids, while the ES counters with superior electric range claims and the brand's renowned long-term reliability focus.

The A6 distinguishes itself with quattro all-wheel drive capability in many variants and a crisp virtual cockpit interface, but the ES stands out with its dedicated EV architecture, and quicker claimed charging times in the segment context.
