Toyota Taisor Overview

Updated on March 23, 2026

The Toyota Taisor is a sub-4-metre crossover SUV designed for Indian driving conditions, combining compact dimensions for urban use with the capability to handle highway trips comfortably. Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach under the hood, it offers varying powertrains, an efficient naturally aspirated petrol, a factory-fitted CNG option, and a turbocharged engine for those who want a bit more punch, all available with both manual, automated manual and automatic transmission choices.

Toyota has also ensured the Taisor feels modern and safe right out of the gate, competing well among the safest cars, most notably with six airbags coming standard across all variants. For those who want a more premium experience, the higher trims transform the cabin with standout tech, including a 360-degree surround camera and a head-up display, wrapping practicality in a very tech-forward package.

Engine and Performance

The Taisor comes with three engine options. The first is a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder K-Series Dual Jet petrol with Dual VVT (variable valve timing on both intake and exhaust camshafts), producing 88.5 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm.

The above engine is also available in a factory-fitted CNG configuration, where output drops to 76.4 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 98.5 Nm at 4,300 rpm, a typical trade-off for bi-fuel setups. Note that the CNG variant is only offered with a 5-speed manual.

The third option is a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder K-Series turbocharged petrol making 98.7 bhp at around 5,500 rpm and 147.6 Nm between 2,000 and 4,500 rpm. It pairs with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque-converter automatic.

fuel economy

When it comes to fuel efficiency, the Taisor delivers competitive ARAI-claimed figures across its engine options, making it a strong contender among SUVs with the best mileage. The 1.2-litre CNG variant is the most efficient, offering 28.51 km/kg. The standard 1.2-litre petrol returns 22.79 km/l with the AMT and 21.71 km/l with the manual transmission.

The more powerful turbo petrol SUV engine delivers 21.18 km/l with the manual gearbox and 19.86 km/l with the automatic.

In terms of capacity, all petrol variants use a 37-litre fuel tank, while the CNG version also includes a 55-litre (water equivalent) cylinder. Additionally both the 1.2-litre and 1.0-litre engines are equipped with an idle start-stop system to improve efficiency in traffic conditions.

Also, the turbo features regenerative braking (energy recovery during deceleration) and electric torque assist during acceleration, both aimed at closing the gap between claimed and real-world efficiency.

interior

The Taisor's cabin features a dual-tone finish across all variants, utilizing premium fabric seats with headrest adjustments at all five positions. A flat-bottom steering wheel and 60:40 split-folding rear seats are standard throughout the range, supporting a straightforward 308-litre boot capacity.

Upgrading to higher trims introduces ergonomic improvements like tilt-and-telescopic steering, driver-seat height adjustment, and a sliding front centre armrest. Technology also scales with the variants, where mid-level trims include a 7-inch Smartplay Cast touchscreen offering wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and OTA updates.

The higher trims upgrade to a 9-inch unit with ARKAMYS surround sound, providing a rich audio experience that competes well against cars with Dolby Atmos sound systems. It also adds cabin conveniences like wireless charging, rear AC vents, fast-charge USB-A and USB-C sockets, packing in value even if it skips the open-air feel found in cars with a sunroof.

Finally, Toyota iCONNECT rounds out the package for remote vehicle monitoring and control.

exterior

The Taisor's crossover stance fits within a 3,995 mm length, 1,765 mm width, and 1,550 mm height on a 2,520 mm wheelbase. Toyota's signature grille with chrome garnish anchors the front, while a roof-end spoiler, shark-fin antenna, and front and rear skid plates round out the styling. Wheel arch, side door, and underbody cladding complete the light off-road aesthetic.

Exterior features progress across the variant range, starting with the 195/60 R16 wheels that upgrade from steel with covers to painted and machined alloy designs, appealing to those who often prioritize ride height and compare SUVs with the highest ground clearance. The lighting setup follows this same pattern with base variants utilizing halogen projector headlamps, stepping up to LED multi-reflectors with twin LED DRLs and integrated turn indicators on higher trims.

At the rear, upper variants exclusively feature an illuminated centre section within the connected LED lamp cluster.

safety

The Toyota Taisor equips every variant with six airbags (dual front, side, and curtain), ABS with EBD, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Hill Hold Assist, and ISOFIX child seat anchors. This core safety is reinforced by three-point ELR seat belts at all five positions, alongside active seat-belt reminders for the driver, co-driver, and rear passengers.

For parking and visibility, standard equipment begins with rear parking sensors paired with an infographic display. Moving up the range, higher variants gain a rearview camera, while the topmost trim exclusively adds a 360-degree surround-view camera and a head-up display. Rounding out the feature list, anti-theft security measures are introduced from the mid variants onward.

Note that no official crash test results from Bharat NCAP or Global NCAP are available for the Taisor.

competition

The Toyota Taisor competes in the sub-4m compact SUV segment against the Skoda Kylaq, Mahindra XUV 3XO, and Kia Sonet.

The Skoda Kylaq’s 1.0-litre engine (114 bhp, 178 Nm) outperforms the Taisor’s equivalent 1.0-litre turbo (99 bhp, 148 Nm). The Kylaq also features a larger 446-litre boot, ventilated and powered front seats, and a 10-inch touchscreen. The Taisor counters with a highly efficient factory-fitted CNG option (28.51 km/kg) and Toyota’s reliable after-sales network.

The Mahindra XUV 3XO stands out with a segment-leading 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine (130 bhp, 230 Nm) and Level-2 ADAS in higher trims. The Taisor holds the advantage in fuel-option variety and overall efficiency, largely due to its CNG lineup.

The Kia Sonet aligns closely with the Taisor on features but offers a stronger 1.0-litre turbo (120 bhp, 172 Nm) paired with a quick-shifting 7-speed DCT automatic. The Taisor’s key differentiators remain its factory CNG availability and standard six airbags across all variants.
