Mahindra Bolero Neo Plus Overview

Updated on March 27, 2026

The Bolero Neo Plus draws from Mahindra's long-standing Bolero legacy while incorporating modern elements from the Neo lineup (originally rooted in the TUV300). Launched in 2024 as a stretched variant, it offers 9-seat accommodation, emphasising its high utility.

This strong frame is powered by a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine producing 120 hp and 280 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox that sends power to the rear wheels.

Complementing this, the exterior features high-clearance defined by muscular side cladding, a bold grille, and signature X-shaped bumpers. It rides on 16-inch wheels (alloys on top variants) and integrates sturdy details like solid footsteps, boltable tow hooks, and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel.

Inside, the highly functional cabin balances traditional Mahindra toughness with practical touches like sliding front seats, armrests, and fabric upholstery on top trims. Higher variants bring in select modern comforts, adding a touchscreen infotainment system, power windows, and steering-mounted controls.

On the safety front, it comes with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, child locks, seat belt reminders, and ISOFIX child seat anchorage.

Engine and Performance

The Bolero Neo Plus is equipped with a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine. It develops a maximum power of 120 hp at 4000 rpm and peak torque of 280 Nm at 1800-2800 rpm. In addition, power is transmitted via a 6-speed manual gearbox.

fuel economy

The Bolero Neo Plus has an ARAI-certified mileage of 14 kmpl for its only diesel manual variant.

interior

The dashboard features a stylish centre facia in MIC Black (base) or Piano Black (higher trim) with silver accents on the AC vents. From the driver's seat, the tilt-adjustable steering wheel includes garnish and mounted audio controls on the top variant, sitting ahead of a twin-pod instrument cluster finished with chrome rings on upper variants.

Alongside these driving controls, infotainment is available as a 22.8 cm touchscreen with USB, Bluetooth, and Aux connectivity on the higher trim, supported by 4 speakers and 2 tweeters.

Moving to passenger comfort, the front seating offers sliding and reclining for the driver and co-driver, with height adjustment, armrests, and premium fabric upholstery on the top trim (vinyl on base). The second row naturally follows with foldable seats, an armrest, and mobile pockets on the seat backs. Further back, the third row completes the cabin layout with fold-up side-facing seats, butterfly quarter glass, and a lap belt for the middle occupant.

Rounding out the interior, practical elements include 12V charging points, roof lamps for the front and middle rows, and an anti-glare IRVM on higher trims. These details, paired directly with driver convenience features like hydraulic power steering and power windows (with a delay function on all four), smoothly enhance daily usability.

exterior

The exterior of the Bolero Neo Plus blends its durable utility with modern design updates, maintaining its iconic "tough-road" DNA starting at the front with signature X-shaped bumpers and a grille with chrome inserts (on higher trims). This is paired with headlamps offering electrical leveling, lead/follow-me-home functions, and front fog lamps on the top variant.

Along the side, it displays muscular side footsteps, signature Bolero side cladding, and 215/70 R16 tubeless radial tyres on steel wheels with hub caps (alloy wheels on top trim). The elongated profile accommodates the 9-seater layout while maintaining a commanding stance.

The design concludes at the rear, where an X-type spare wheel cover (available in body-colour or deep silver) and a rear footstep add to the functional appeal. Higher trims further improve visibility and convenience with the addition of a rear glass defogger and a wash/wipe system.

safety

The Bolero Neo Plus prioritizes safety with an essential suite of protective features, starting with dual airbags and ABS with EBD for improved braking control. This is supported by automated security measures such as auto door locking during drive, central locking, and an immobiliser.

Other aids include child locks, seat belt reminders, and a speed alert system. To assist with maneuvers and awareness, the vehicle further provides reverse parking sensors with audible assist, complemented by a flip key and clear warning displays for door ajar alerts.

Note that the closely related Bolero Neo received a 1-star rating for both adult and child occupant protection in Global NCAP tests under the latest protocols, citing concerns over structural stability, chest and foot protection in frontal impacts, and limited child restraint options. Buyers looking for the safest cars to buy in 2026 may find this guide useful.

No specific Bharat NCAP rating is available for the Bolero Neo Plus.

competition

The Bolero Neo Plus primarily competes with the standard Mahindra Bolero and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga as direct alternatives for buyers seeking high-capacity, practical people-movers in a similar price bracket.

The standard Bolero offers a more traditional, compact 7/9-seater layout with proven longevity and lower running costs in rural duty, while the Neo Plus leads with a stretched wheelbase, more modern interior elements (larger touchscreen option), and stronger torque delivery from the 2.2-litre engine.

The Ertiga provides a monocoque MPV platform with superior ride refinement, better fuel efficiency in petrol/CNG options, and a more car-like cabin experience. Conversely, the Bolero Neo Plus holds an edge in sturdy body-on-frame construction, diesel torque for loaded highway runs, and authentic SUV styling with higher ground clearance suitability.
