The Hero Glamour XTEC, currently on sale in India as a BS6 Phase 2 compliant model, positions itself as a technology-forward option in the fiercely contested 125cc commuter segment. While its core mechanicals remain rooted in proven commuter principles, its standout strength lies in its comprehensive digital features package, including segment-first turn-by-turn navigation. This motorcycle primarily competes with established rivals such as the Honda SP 125 and the TVS Raider 125, aiming to attract buyers who prioritize modern connectivity and convenience over outright performance or brand prestige.

Engine, Performance and Mileage

The Hero Glamour XTEC is powered by a 124.7cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine compliant with BS6 Phase 2 and E20 fuel norms. This unit produces a modest 10.7 bhp at 7,500 rpm and 10.6 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm, paired with a 5-speed transmission. In the context of the 125cc segment, these figures are competitive but not class-leading; the TVS Raider 125, for instance, generates a slightly higher 11.2 bhp. The engine’s character is geared towards urban tractability. The torque is accessible low in the rev range, which translates to minimal gear changes in dense city traffic, making for a relaxed commute. Throttle response is linear and predictable, devoid of any aggressive surge.

On the highway, the 5-speed gearbox helps the engine cruise at speeds of 70-80 km/h without feeling overly strained, though overtakes require careful planning. Refinement is acceptable for daily use, but vibrations become noticeable in the footpegs and handlebars past 6,500 rpm. The key highlight remains fuel efficiency, enhanced by Hero's i3S (Idle Stop-Start System). While the claimed figure hovers around 60 kmpl, real-world city conditions will yield a respectable 50-55 kmpl, making it a cost-effective daily commuter.

posture comfort

Hero MotoCorp has engineered the Glamour XTEC with a strong focus on rider and pillion comfort. The riding posture is completely upright, with a neutrally positioned handlebar and forward-set footpegs. This ergonomic triangle minimizes strain on the rider's back, wrists, and shoulders, making it ideal for long hours in traffic. The single-piece seat is long, wide, and well-cushioned, providing ample support for both the rider and a pillion. With a seat height of 798 mm, it is accessible to a wide range of riders of average height in India. The pillion is provided with a sturdy grab rail and comfortable footpegs, making two-up riding a practical proposition.

The motorcycle's 180mm of ground clearance is generous enough to navigate large speed breakers and uneven rural roads without scraping the underbelly. The air-cooled engine manages heat efficiently, with no discomfort felt by the rider even in stop-and-go traffic conditions. While it lacks dedicated luggage mounting points, the flat and long seat, combined with the robust grab rail, allows for securely tying down small bags for occasional out-of-city trips.

handling ride quality

Built on a conventional diamond frame, the Glamour XTEC employs a telescopic front fork and 5-step adjustable hydraulic shock absorbers at the rear. The suspension is tuned with a clear bias towards comfort. It effectively absorbs most road imperfections, from broken tarmac to small potholes, isolating the rider from the harshness of typical Indian city roads. This comfort-oriented setup, however, means handling is safe and predictable rather than sharp or engaging. In congested urban environments, its light kerb weight of 123 kg and upright ergonomics make it easy to filter through traffic. High-speed stability is adequate for its performance envelope, but it does not inspire the same level of confidence as some of its more stiffly sprung rivals.

When it comes to braking, the motorcycle is offered with a 240mm front disc and a 130mm rear drum, governed by an Integrated Braking System (IBS). This system, essentially Hero’s version of a Combi-Brake System (CBS), links the front and rear brakes for more stable deceleration. While the braking power is sufficient for its intended speeds, the lack of a single-channel ABS option is a significant omission, especially when competitors are increasingly offering it as standard or a variant choice.

Design

The Glamour XTEC's primary differentiator is its equipment list. Visually, the design is an evolution of the standard Glamour, featuring clean lines, functional body panels, and contemporary graphics. It is a conservative design meant for mass appeal rather than turning heads. The standout element is the full LED headlamp with an H-shaped DRL, which offers superior illumination and visibility compared to halogen units common in this segment. The main attraction is the fully digital LCD instrument cluster.

This unit is comprehensive, displaying a tachometer, speedometer, fuel gauge, gear position indicator, and a real-time mileage indicator. Its key feature is Bluetooth connectivity, enabling turn-by-turn navigation prompts and call/SMS alerts directly on the console. This is a genuinely useful tool for navigating unfamiliar urban routes without mounting a phone. Furthermore, the inclusion of an integrated USB charging port adds a layer of modern practicality, ensuring a rider's devices remain powered on the go. These features, typically seen in higher segments, are the XTEC’s core value proposition, elevating it from a basic commuter to a connected, tech-savvy motorcycle for the daily rider.

safety

The safety suite on the Hero Glamour XTEC is a mix of modern essentials and a notable omission. On the positive side, the inclusion of a full LED headlamp significantly enhances nighttime visibility, making the rider more conspicuous to other road users and providing better road illumination. Another key feature is the side-stand engine cut-off function, which prevents the motorcycle from being ridden with the side stand engaged—a crucial safety measure that is now a standard requirement. The primary braking system is Hero’s Integrated Braking System (IBS), which applies a portion of the front brake when the rear brake is used. This helps in stabilizing the motorcycle during braking, especially for novice riders, by distributing braking force more evenly.

However, the most significant point of discussion is the absence of an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), even as a single-channel option. While IBS reduces the chances of a skid due to unbalanced braking, it cannot prevent wheel lock-up during panic braking on low-traction surfaces. In a segment where competitors like the TVS Raider and Honda SP 125 are increasingly offering single-channel ABS, its absence on the Glamour XTEC is a clear disadvantage for safety-conscious buyers.

competition

The 125cc segment is crowded with competent rivals, each offering a distinct proposition. The Glamour XTEC faces its stiffest competition from three primary motorcycles.

Honda SP 125:

The Honda SP 125 is renowned for its engine refinement and premium build quality. It features Honda's eSP technology and an ACG silent starter, offering an exceptionally smooth and quiet riding experience. Its primary differentiator is the superior refinement and fit-and-finish, appealing to buyers who prioritize a polished, reliable package.

TVS Raider 125:

The Raider 125 targets a younger audience with its sporty, aggressive styling and peppy performance. It boasts a more powerful engine, ride modes (Eco and Power), and an optional TFT display with advanced connectivity. Its key differentiator is its performance-oriented character and modern, youthful appeal.

Bajaj Pulsar 125:

The Pulsar 125 leverages the strong brand equity of the Pulsar family, offering a muscular design and a big-bike feel in a smaller package. It provides robust performance and a comfortable ride. Its main differentiator is its muscular styling and the aspirational value associated with the Pulsar brand name.

buying advice

Who should buy it?

The ideal buyer is a daily commuter who values modern technology and convenience features like on-console navigation, a USB charger, and a detailed digital display over outright performance or the ultimate safety net of ABS.

Who should skip it?

Enthusiasts seeking a thrilling riding experience should look at the TVS Raider. Buyers prioritizing impeccable engine refinement and build quality will find the Honda SP 125 more suitable. Those for whom ABS is non-negotiable should also consider other options.
